Hit a nasty pothole the other day.

Nothing terribly obvious is wrong with the bike aside from my cool-guy LEDs not working. I imagine a wire got knocked loose or something. They're not important and I'll prolly be able to figure it out.

The question I have is, Are there things I should closely look at for something not so obvious? How do I make sure the forks weren't damaged? Are there weak spots on the frame I should know about? How about the wheel? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The first things that come to mind for me are alignment and the underside of the bike. I know a buddy who destroyed her belly pan in a similar fashion.

1 If the forks still move full travel that's good
2 Check the fork clamps on the yokes are ok they can crack close to the bolt.
3 With the front wheel off the ground gently move the bars around the straight ahead position Checking for any tendency to detent into the ahead position. which will require bearing replacement.
4 The wheel will usually be protected by the tire but give it a spin to check the rim is true
5 The swing arm is trailing so should be fine just check the rear wheel alignment hasn't been knocked out of whack and you should be good to go

Got a couple dents in the rim from some of the wonderful potholes here in michigan, most everything on the bike will be fine but check the rim for and dings and dents.

Ever ride down Custer/plank to Milan? I hit a monster, my fender hit my horn, I thought iw as going to die.

If the wheel is straight, you're fine.

Nope.
If they are straight and the front tire is not twisted respect to the handlebar.
The tightness of the bolts that hold the engine to the frame and the play of the steering column's bearings.
The wheel should rotate true, radially and laterally.
You are welcome

Yes i have, but only on rare occasions anymore.
Heading east bound just before the road clears of the really bad sections there was a nice pothole i hit that was shaded and i didn't see till i was on it, it was a really nice way to take to milan years ago but not so much anymore till they repave it.

By chance came across this article, girl was nearly killed when a pothole threw her off her motorcycle.
