If it's a bigger high speed kart track, you can run a 250, but you'll probably never get into the higher gears.

When I do run my 250 on one, I gear it down quite a bit. I go with a front sprocket one tooth smaller than stock, and a rear sprocket about 3 teeth larger than stock. And I still never get into 6th gear.

Those NSR-50's are nothing but fun on a kart track, though.

Here's a vid from my 250 on a kart track:

Jay, I see your from Wisconsin. If your interested you can go run around at USA IR up in Shawano. NWGP runs there and they have cheap practice days and evenings there. I have enjoyed running my 250's there many times.

I should check it out.

Wonder if there's a class to race the Derbi GPR? If not, it may be fun to just do a trackday on it.

Heya, I race with M1GP and I'll have my 250 and my NS50 out at Santa Maria on May 17th - come join us! You can just do the practice on Saturday if you want (think of it as an inexpensive track day), or stay all weekend and race on Sunday.

Sweet action! I don't think there will be a Friday practice, as we usually only do Saturdays, but I'll double-check!

After years of not making time, and excuses I finally got my little XR100SM out onto the kart track. Now granted I have enough track time on bigger bikes and bigger tracks that my expectations were not that high; BUT!!!!! WHAT AMAZING FUN!!!!!

LOL. Seriously. I mean never has riding so slow on such a terrible little bike put such a stupid big grin on my face. I have some things to sort out on the little sucker to make it a bit more rideable but honestly .... if you have a kart track near you that does minibikes ...... get an XR100/CRF100 and an XR80 front wheel and get out and tear it up ASAP.

Exactly. Explaining how much fun it is and then seeing someone get how much fun it really is reminds me of trying to explain baseball. You don't get it until you've seen it.

Here's a video that I shot back when I raced an NSR.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rtj8R5DA1GY

I did to mess with a competitors head. It worked! I still like the music.

Ride on,

J~

Hey Eric,

Yes, there is a $10 entrance fee and you sign a liability waiver. If you come on Saturday, a few teams will be running a 4HR endurance race. Hope to see you there or bring your own mini!

This was Round 3 (04/19) at Horse Thief Miles in Willow Spring International Raceway. I'm in the video around 1:52-4:08 (silver/black suit /w white helmet). First time at the track, although going uphill was a drag, the downhill part was a blast leading into fast sweeping turns.

Heres' a clip from Motor Trend with Ari, Zach and Kevin who did the race in 2012.
