Fuel Petcock Leaking

Hi I am trying to get my new to me 03 250 going but noticed fuel leaking from the petcock. Any ideas on what could be causing this would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Failed gasket would be my guess. A rebuild would be in order methinks...

Where is it leaking from?

It can leak from the lever side or the side to which the hoses connect (diaphragm).

These are two systems in one: a two-way valve (handle lever) and a vacuum activated valve (diaphragm).

Yes, be careful when you pull the plates apart, because the two neoprene diaphragms are very thin and delicate and can be broken even if they are in good shape (they are expensive).

The diaphragm runs around $22 plus shipping from Ron Ayers http://www.ronayers.com/ProductDetails/N/687/SKU/594512

Another option would be to buy a used petcock in known good condition.

Update. Pulled petcock apart and couldnt see anything with the naked eye so will go ahead and order new diaphragm unless I can find anyone here that may have a good used fuel petcock that they would like to sell.

Might be a good idea to check for flatness of mating surfaces, if either half of the petcock assembly is warped then a new diaphragm may not stop the leak. I run pieces across a large mill file, it's really obvious if one part is warped significantly.
