Spoked wheels?
I really want to do a blue collar bobber conversion on my ninja. The bike was free, so I can throw a little money into it. It’s a 2007 and the cafe racer kit is the way I want to go. The only problem I have is, to really complete the look I want, more of a scrambler look, I’d like to have spoked wheels. There is little to know information out there on wheel swaps for 250’s. What I want to know, is there certain set of spoked wheels that will cause minimum issues swapping out? What will those issues be? Can I use any wheels as long as I do this, this, and this. Thanks for any input.

I really like spoke wheels. They're lighter than solid cast ones. They are also more compliant over bumps, making for smoother ride.
Only trick is getting them wide enough for modern radial tyres. Fitting them has the exact challenges as using any non-stock wheels from other bike such as CBR600 or Ninja650. Consider these areas: axle diameters are most likely different. You can change bearings to fit proper axle. axle lengths are not always compatible. You can chop and add new threads with lathe. spacers typically need to be custom-made to centre wheel. brake-brackets may need to be customized in order to fit caliper brake-disc as the offset may not be same cush-drive sprocket-carrier may need to be machined to get proper sprocket-offset. This ties in with the spacers above. First step is to draw accurate picture with numbers for all the above. Then when you find a wheel you like, simple to just pull out calipers and measure and see how close it comes to your picture and numbers for stock wheel. |
