The new S1000R


BMW HAS announced prices for its full 2014 range including the all-new S1000R and R nineT, and the electric C Evolution maxi scooter.

The S1000R – basically a naked version of the firm's S1000RR flagship sports bike making 160hp – will cost £9,990.

The S1000R comes with Race ABS and traction control as standard. There are two riding modes, Road and Rain, but you can bolt on a sports package which adds two more, Dynamic and Dynamic Pro, along with a quickshifter.

The Sport version, with electronic suspension adjustment as well as the extra riding modes and quickshifter, costs £11,390.

The R nineT, a cafe racer-styled 1170cc air-cooled boxer-twin made to be customised with official parts, costs £11,600. It makes 110hp and weighs 222kg fully-fueled.

The C Evolution costs £13,500. The electric scooter is suitable for learners and A1 licence holders restricted to 15hp, even though its maximum power is 48hp. Contained in the specs, along with the maximum 48hp, is a separate 'rated' power figure of 15hp and in brackets 'riding licence class A1'. The lower figure is what the bike turned in under specific EU-set test conditions and is sustainable continuously. That means it’s the figure licence authorities look at.

The C Evolution makes 53lbft of torque from 0-4,500rpm, has a range of 62 miles in 'every day riding' and will charge to 80% in two hours and 45 minutes.

The K1600 GTL Exclusive, a new edition of the 1649cc six-cylinder tourer 'with visual and technical enhancements and an extended range of equipment', costs £22,400. It's got Hill Start Control, a key-less ignition, central locking and electronic suspension adjustment.

The new R1200 GS Adventure is £14,765 and the R1200 RT £13,200.

The prices were released at the Motorcycle Live show at Birmingham's NEC. All are on-the-road.
