Exhaust options?

I picked up a 1996 last week after feeling sad about selling my first ninjette. The bike was in non running shape but overall pretty nice and the price was right, anywho it turned out that one of the pistons was completely melted through, so after finding a used 2007 engine in good shape with low miles for $100, the bike is almost done but I'm curious what others have done for exhausts on their pregens as it seems the mythical muzzy cant be found. I've considered a custom 2-1 weld job but I'd honesly be fine with just some slip ons. Curious if anyone has any old f1 mufflers for sale or other options, or general advice. I do plan on rejetting and tuning when all said and done. Im mainly looking to save weight. Please feel free to move if this is the wrong place for this.

While you're listing exhausts you will almost certainly never see in the wild don't forget the Area P which was produced for just a year or so for the Pre-Gen bikes.

I have one on my 2005 EX250. The quality of this pipe is the absolute best I've seen, perfect fit and finish, beautiful welds, and it's aging quite well on my bike.

And Area P was a great company to deal with, the main guy was Kerry Bryant who is a very nice person.

Here's thread on Area-P exhaust for pre-gens. Development steps along with dyno-charts. If anyone can measure their Area-P, I can make similar exhaust for you.

Considering the fact that the Pre-Gen is a long dead platform and as a result doesn't represent a future income stream for Area P it seems that simply asking Kerry Bryant for copies of the technical specifications and drawings wouldn't be out of line.

It would be like guys who build "tribute" versions of old cars and motorcycles.

Maybe you can convince this person to sell just the exhaust and ship to you

That's great idea, thanks! I'll ask him.

I've been wanting to build one for myself anyway. Once I've got it jigged up, might as well build another... 5 max. Seems to be number of interested parties.

I messaged the guy on craigslist, but its unlikely that he would ship. I'm mainly looking for something fairly inexpensive as I don't want to put so much money into a 2nd bike that I really don't need. Ideally less than 200.

Sorry, I forgot to post thread on Area-P exhaust development. Added to post above. As you can see, even best exhaust for pre-gen doesn't give much improvement compared to exhausts for new-gen. That's because pre-gen had more optimized engine with more power to begin with. So you're not gonna be able improve much with exhaust.

Better bang for buck are suspension mods. For $200, you'll want to upgrade front-springs and rear-shock. Highly recommend upgrading to new-gen 17" wheels. Opens up HUGE selection of tyres to choose from.
