Mr. Regular nailed it with this intro!
The intro on this video basically sums up EVERY newb interaction we have here. Enjoy. Mr. Regular always does a decent video with some well thought out points.

The problem is he's preaching to the choir!
Those that need the message aren't listening or if they do: "Don't confuse me with facts; my mind's made up. LA LA LA LA LA...."

Great video! Love the writing, the editing and the delivery.
The bit about fuel economy made me LOL. My 06 R6 track bike is incredibly thirsty (like, "do I have a leak somewhere?" thirsty). But then, I've got it twisted up to about 12k most of the time.... Like the Ninjette, the R6 gets into a kind of ethereal smoothness when it's revved. The engine is happier. The bike is more alive. The fun is there in abundance. The difference is that on an R6, when you get up there you're going at very high speeds indeed. On the Ninjette, you're at least within spitting distance of legality. Which, in a nutshell, is why the Ninjette makes a GREAT street bike.

Sirref, tell your roommate that I ride a hot-rodded '72 Kawasaki H2 that I've had since the '70s, and I rode a 390 Duke this spring. It was way fun, the engine was way stronger than I expected, and I easily dragged a knee on the Dragon. There's nothing "meh" about that bike, unless your goal is to impress your friends who have literbikes.

as for impressing friends with literbikes, I usually just pass them and the ones I can't pass typically understand how much fun the bike is

^^^ lol, nice.
Even a late 90's F3 isn't a rookie bike, it's still making 90-ish hp and responds really well to being rejetted. Killer streetbike for someone who knows what they're doing. That engine is smooth and has a nice mid range. The rider ergos are all-day comfy as well. |

Pretty spot on.
Although I find it interesting that the availability of smaller cc bikes has greatly increased while manufactures are starting to halt or slow down R&D of their mid sized super sports. Apparently not that much money in that class to be made any more. Times a changing.

I guess I'm the odd man out here. I started on an 03 r6 (basically the exact same bike minus inverted forks) and did 20k of riding the first year. Never crashed it, dropped it, etc... Keep it under 9k rpm and you're more than fine. I had to stop watching the video at 7:30 due to overhype. lol
Are 600's for everybody? No. Are motorcycles for everybody? No. I wouldn't be opposed to the US having a graduated licensing system. I'm a big fan of common sense and good judgment, which we all know not everyone possesses these days. IMO, it's an individual basis. |

Some people, like yourself (allegedly), CAN survive and not crash with an r6 as their first bike. And yeah, I'd go as far as to say that it is an individual basis on whether or not it's right. But, it's hard to honestly evaluate yourself, especially on something so complex with such varying circumstances and situations like riding a motorcycle. A 250cc bike is just a good bike to start on. |
