Difference between motogp bike and street bike

A lengthy but interesting read

http://m.motorcycle-usa.com/811/1505...s--MotoGP.aspx

10 seconds a lap is a monstrous gap. But what's most notable is that if you did take Marquez and park him on a super stock hp4, he probably could get the thing in the top 10 of motogp qualifying at some tracks.

It just goes to show how capable mass market superbikes are. I've seen plenty of s1000's and zx10's cruising around and it's amazing to think what that semi ordinary machine can do. At the same time it goes to show how slow most of us are haha.

Um your ZX-10 street squids bike is about as close to a world superbike class bike as my stock tundra is to a Toyota trophy truck well maybe not that extreme but you get the point.

Those two second aren't much in time but in technology and skill its a gap few could ever hope to bridge.

Perspective:

I am 4 seconds (1:16) off 1st place (1:12) pace per lap. Over a 10 lap race, 1st, & 2nd have half the track on me when the checkers drop. 10 seconds = lap traffic.

Still think production bikes are close to GP bikes? lol

Jeebus a Christ all I did was note that the highest level of motorcycle performance isnt amazingly faster than say the fastest street car compared to f1. Yes aerodynamics are a huge factor in the 4 wheel world. The fastest street car does 1:32 around Laguna and some old early 90s Ferrari f1 holds the lap record with a high 1:05. Just a simple perspective

Also mind you, there are tracks that are way more high speed and flowing than Laguna Seca. Which means the gap would be even larger. Article already mentioned that Nicky Hayden & Ducati isn't the fastest combo.

Also what rojo said. WSBK bikes are CRAZY ahead of their versions that you pick up from the dealer.

But yeah.. I still don't doubt the production bikes came A LONG way from where they were a few years ago. Hell, isn't that the point of all the R&D of Motogp. Factories enter it so they can put all the new technology found in their street bikes.

I still like the fact that in theory, what I buy from the dealer can be made into something that can lap that fast in the right hands

Love watching WSS for this very reason. I get a different kind of pleasure when I watch some guy destroy the field with the same exact bike I'm on minus the 10's of thousands of dollars spent onto modifying it ofcourse But still!

I suppose the best place to see road bikes souped up to super racing bike tech standards would be the IOM TT, fred in a shed type guys do amazing things with bikes in the UK for the TT.

It's not impossible to get a bike from the dealership and bring it up to top racing specs, it's just expensive! Lots of carbon fibre, lighter parts etc.

The Superstock class there is pretty much a production bike with a few shiny toys bolted on in place of the heavier stock parts.

In support of OP; a street bike today, meaning 1000 (or even the girls model 600) in the hands of your average rider can feel like a MotoGP bike when comparing riders ability to bike's capability.

I miss the days of the 500cc two smokers. Those were some crazy bikes.

I was one of those reasons back in like 2006 until my team folded because of lack of sponsorship

If only your sponsors thought as highly of you as you do yourself...
