[motorcycle.com] - New Fastrack Riders Academy Education Programs

Press Release: Much more than a simple motorcycle trackday organization, the new Fastrack Riders Academy & Apex Club unites riders of all skill levels at Southern California’s most convenient, best organized, all-inclusive trackdays. It offers a multi-stage moto-education program at Auto Club Speedway, a sportbike playground just 30 miles from Los Angeles.

Fastrack is the exclusive motorcycle partner at this world-class superspeedway in Fontana. Known since 1989 as Fastrack Riders, the Academy and Apex Club descriptors were added this year to better reflect the unique educational and extracurricular activities happening on and off the racetrack that make every day a multi-layered event for sportbikers to enjoy in an open, friendly, club-like atmosphere.

“There are trackday organizations and there are schools,” says Imad Samhat, Fastrack’s hands-on owner, motorcycle trackday veteran, engineer and businessman. “Fastrack has great programs on both sides. Our goal is to offer a wide range of services that will improve riding skills and increase safety margins.”

In 2016, Fastrack is hosting 25 motorcycle trackdays. New for 2016 is Fastrack on 4 Wheels, a weekend for sports car drivers in December that will wrap up another great season.

Uniting Riders of All Skill Levels and Ages
The Fastrack Riders Academy & Apex Club brings together riders of all ages and skill levels. At every event, the racetrack, paddock and garages are alive with the sound of horsepower, teeming with experienced professionals, talented locals and other interesting, moto-savvy characters ready to dole out riding tips, share their setup secrets, lend a hand changing wheels and swap bench-racing stories.

Get on The Fast Track
Barely contained within the superspeedway’s D-shaped oval is a 45-foot-wide, 2.36-mile, 21-turn roadcourse that serves perfectly as a serious sportbike playground and rider-advancement zone. The motorcycle track uses part of the speedway’s 3100-foot front stretch, which is banked at an 11-degree angle.

On every lap, riders experience the intensity of tucking in behind their bike’s windscreen, high on the banking, whizzing by multi-hued grandstands while approaching Turn 1–just like the stars of MotoAmerica, NASCAR and IndyCar.

Record-Setting Laps
Piloting an open-wheel rocketship, Gil de Ferran holds the two-mile speedway’s outright lap record at a mind-bending 30.255 seconds, an average of 241.28 mph! At 188 mph, Kyle Busch holds NASCAR bragging rights. On two wheels, seven-time AMA Superbike Champion Mat Mladin owns the roadcourse with a smokin’ 1:23.404 time.

All Inclusive
Fastrack days are all-inclusive: There are no gate fees. Garages with roll-up doors and power outlets are free. Showers are available, camping is allowed and each RV space has an electrical hookup. Spectators and significant others are welcome–at no charge. Gas stations, quality restaurants, comfortable hotels and medical facilities are minutes away. In fact, a professional medical staff and doctor are on-site at all times.

Science and Technology
Web-savvy and on the gas, Fastrack leverages the latest technology to provide accurate and consistent information, making for a streamlined user experience–from riders’ initial contact with the simple online registration and checkout system to tracking their lap times in the organization’s web-based archive weeks later.

Prep Work
Preparing a well-maintained streetbike per Fastrack’s requirements is simple. No permanent modifications are required. No special parts to buy. Just tape up mirrors and turn-signal lenses, remove a couple easy-to-reach fuses and head to tech inspection–which is staffed by a crew that includes professional wrenches and racers.

During this safety check, every bike is fitted with a free transponder to use for the day. Through the magic of technology, riders can view their lap times from FastrackRiders.info during the day.

Safety First
Fastrack’s goal is to provide the safest possible environment for all participants–from newbies to club racers on everything from 250cc sportbikes to 200-horsepower superbikes.*The first step in doing so is ensuring that every rider is in the right group for their experience and comfort level. This serious task is done scientifically, not arbitrarily, using lap-timer-generated information to determine compatibility within each group.

The Academy & Apex Club staff are fully paid, well-trained and organized. They’re on the same page, following strict operating procedures and rules. BMW S1000RR-mounted instructors in every session keep the peace and are available for lead-follow exercises with anyone who wants to learn the track’s best lines. Corner workers can see every inch of the track. Medical professionals are always at the ready. All of these extremely capable people are connected by radio communication at all times.

Clockwork
Fastrack days run like clockwork. Gates swing open around sunrise. Registration and tech begin promptly at 7:00. At 8:00, the rider’s meeting and daily raffle take place in a modern, well-equipped theater–no bullhorn required. On-track action begins at 9:00 with three 20-minute sessions. To maximize riding time, the track isn’t shut down for a lunch break. The clock keeps running and the sessions continue in order until things wrap up at 5:00.

Moto Institute of Higher Learning: From Newbies to Track Addicts
For trackday newcomers, every Academy & Apex Club event offers a methodical, progressive, low-pressure track-orientation and skills course lead by instructors who have circulated Auto Club Speedway thousands of times.

Throughout the day, newbies and novices build personal bonds, offer encouragement and share the experience while comfortably transitioning–at their own pace–from commuters, city stalkers and canyon carvers into genuine track riders. When the final checkered flag flies, every student takes away new skills that will help them be better, safer, more confident street riders.

Instead of lapping the racetrack fueled by adrenaline and riding by the seat of their leathers with a combination of mad skills and bad form, seasoned track addicts can build their go-fast credibility by honestly assessing their skills, defining their goals and getting on the gas with the Academy’s step-by-step training program.

Experienced sportbike pilots can jump directly into the Academy’s advanced program. Students have the choice of learning to go fast on one the school’s lightweight, race-prepped KTM RC390 Cup rental bikes or use their own machines.

The curriculum begins with one-on-one training from local heroes to personalized instruction by four-time AMA Pro roadracing champion Eric Bostrom. Students can try out for and participation in the Fastrack Riders Academy made-for-TV roadracing reality show, then move on to the Moto Education Graduate Program of specialized coaching through their first races with Fastrack’s race series partner, WERA West.

More Than Just a Trackday: From Moto Gymkhana to MotoGP
Top Apex Club attractions include the KTM-sponsored Moto Gymkhana and Fastrack’s first-ever, staff-led European trackdays on some of the world’s most legendary racetracks. No doubt that Fastrack’s mototourists will share their action-packed days on social media along the way and bring back a lifetime of memories.

Free Admission to the Apex Club: No Membership Required
Membership isn’t mandatory, but Fastrack has three levels with progressive discounts and other benefits: a $100 membership offers discount on every trackday to discounts on every track service to concierge-like treatment that includes reserved garage and parking spots with snacks, refreshments, last-minute registration and even data-logging reports at the high end.

Immediate Loyalty Points
As an incentive for street riders to make the transition to becoming track riders, everyone new to Fastrack gets a $60 discount on their first day. Returning first-time riders earn a $50 discount when they register for two consecutive days; $125 savings on a three-day weekend.

Trackdays are $219 in Fridays and $269 on weekends. Individual days can be purchased in packages of five to save $150 or 10 days for $350. There’s even an unlimited program where trackday connoisseurs earn more than $2000 in discounts. Group pricing consists of a free track day for the rider who refers three trackday newbies. With the 5 and Jive special, one person in a six-rider group also hits the track for free.
