Weird. Sometimes it doesn't shift to second.
Sometimes I try to shift from first to second (let's say around 7-9k rpm), and it feels like it went, but then I let go of the clutch, and it's still in first, which can be a bit unsettling while in traffic. I recently lubes the clutch cable, but put everything back the way it was. Does anyone have any ideas of what might be going on? I would be very much ingratiated......

Try adjusting your shift linkage to make sure you get a good, firm shift.

It happens. Shift more firmly. If it keeps happening, adjust the position of the shifter.

Can't remember if this applies to your problem, or if it's an issue with getting a false neutral. Regardless, a FAQ on the ninja250.org recommends keeping holding the shifter (rather than releasing) in place to ensure the shift is complete. I'll post back when I can find that page.

If your tires aren't turning fast enough, the positive neutral finder will prevent you from shifting into second.

I've been having the same problem shifting up into 3rd for the last week or so - it started right after my 600 mile service. I'll also try holding the shifter up
