Another Sunday Morning Ride in Marin 8/24/08

I took our Ninjette out for another Sunday morning ride yesterday. There's a standing ride just about every Sunday that starts from the Big Rock Deli in San Rafael (info here). When I arrived at the ride start, there were quite a few people already in the lot. And one of them had arrived on a completely electric bike; his company had customized what once was a Ducati 900SS into a fully electric machine. Big motor, a bunch of batteries, and a huge rear sprocket. Several folks got a chance to tool around on it for a little bit, but I didn't get the chance.

Here's the group shot before we headed out:

Descending on Meyers Grade from bright sunlight into thick fog. Luckily it wasn't as bad as it looks here, it was only foggy for a mile or two on the coast.

A number of surfers were out a little south of Coleman beach:

Mike wondering if I was more interested in riding or taking pictures:

Crashed 650R that was sitting all alone at the corner of Hicks Valley and Pt. Reyes-Petaluma Rd:

It didn't look too bad, but the right side footpeg was sheared off and the brake pedal was bent inwards. Hopefully its owner is relatively OK and was on the way back to retrieve the bike shortly.

Coupla hundred miles, coupla dozen pictures, fun way to spend a Sunday. Here's a link to all pictures that I took today; they can be viewed in full-res and a google maps link of their location is at the bottom of each of 'em.

Here's a pic of the route:

If any folks are ever around the SF Bay area and are looking for a fun way to spend Sunday morning, please feel free to meet up and join this ride...

Posts: A lot.
Alex: Thanks for the memories

In 1967 I was stationed at Ft. Ord and was riding a Norton 750 Dunstall Cafe Racer. Loved the area! Nice people, great wines, and superb riding. Went back east after the war and tried to make a living as an MC dealer--no cigar. Ended up back in college and got a professional career. Loved Monterey, Salinas, and Marina--lived in Marina.
