YSS Rear Shock

Anybody have any experience with YSS shocks? I'm looking at the X-302 TRC, the top one here. Seems like good value for the price and it's within (barely) my desired price range.

I have a 2012, do they set that shock up for your weight when you order it?

no, i had danno xyz investigate spring rate thru progressive. this is only spring they offer. i’m 6’ 210 pounds which was perfect. he help me set my sag too. the progressive although not a premium shock, is light years from stock and offers good preload adjustability. combine with race tech front springs and heavier fork oil and the 250 will feel that much better when riding. i’ve always strived to be the king of el cheapo and this is a good budget rear shock. aluminum body, nitrogen charged.

I only weigh 130 pounds, so I'm worried that this shock would still be too stiff for me.

That calculator looks like it only does fork springs. Racetech's calculator says I need a 7.65kg/mm spring for the rear. What's the 425 pound rating? Is that fully compressed force?

Oh I see, 425lb/in. It actually looks like it's pretty close to what Racetech recommends, I might give it a shot. Where can you buy it?

What kind of riding do you do?
What kind of roads? Smooth freeway commutes? Bumpy mountain roads? Off-roading?

At 130-lbs, I'd stay away from anything that has "racing" or "off-roading" in its description. There used to be importer of Hagon shocks from UK, but no more. WP-pro used to have adjustable-length, double-adjustabke shock for EX500. All reports of using GSX-R shocks have been that they're way too stiff.

Best value is that Progressive shock Maverick pointed out. Has enough damping adjustment for wide range of rider weights and road conditions.

Mostly just fun twisty road riding. The stock shock feels way too stiff, and the common gsxr mod (aside from me not wanting to do any grinding) would probably require a couple hundred bucks to get the right spring anyway.

I'll probably try this progressive shock, the price is good.

Found it for $287 at Solo Moto Parts: https://www.solomotoparts.com/Progre...0-Ninja-08-12/

I'm a little leery of that much of a discount, but the site gets good reviews on ADVRider, and my bank is good with fraud, so I'm going to pull the trigger.

One thing you can do to lighten up shock is use knuckle/linkage from pre-gen. Leverage ratio is about 0.8 compared to 1.2 on new-gen.

Kevin @Ralgha, did you ever get Progressive shock installed?
What's your impression & review?

I did install the Progressive shock. Easy drop-in install, and the sag/preload ended up being right for me out of the box too!

It's a noticable, though not drastic, improvement over the stock shock. I think it's good value for the money if you don't want to do any grinding to fit a gxsr shock.
