bike acting weird!

So I just got home from a ride and when ever i would start at a light or something my bike in 1st gear would jump, the needle on the rpm would launch from 2 past the red line and the lights on my dash disappeared along with my headlights... then it kicks back in and is fine... I was thinking maybe it wasnt warmed up enough but it happened still about 25 minutes into the ride... any ideas?

check to see if the connections to your battery terminals are tight.

I ran my battery completely dead and mine did this after I pop-started it until it had a bit of charge. It ran really funny too. At higher RPMs it would come down and behave normally until the next stop.

Turbo lag?
