When the first five are finished I will take pre-order payments for the next set.
I may have to... to buy the parts.

Not until the first five are done. This is the test run..

I may also send you guys upgrades later or new gauges. I have tons of ideas but trying to keep it basic for now and make sure it works. Hard enough just to finish a few for now.

It works on my bike. If you guys can install the pick up switches exactly right on the sprocket cover and tap into your harness and neutral lines, it'll work on yours also.

You can hook the output to a transistor pair which can drive a heavier current load, and then to a relay.
The output is ttL level digital signal for that LED.
On off 5V, but it's only like 35mah.

@KC:

The plug fires 2 times per revolution. The ninja uses a "wasted spark" type ignition wherein both plugs fire at the same time: once at BTDC and another one at BBDC. As such, the plug firing frequency is double the engine rpm and you need to consider this when you do your programming. Proof of this is there's only 1 piece of trigger coil and it's for both cylinders.

The signal going to the tach is a negative-going pulse (from +12v) and it is the same signal going to the ignition coil. Be careful when you tap off of this wire because the flyback voltage of the ignition coil (NOT the voltage to the sparkplug) is a few hundred volts and it will easily fry the input ports of your processor if you connect it directly. Some signal conditioning is required.

Gear indicator: You kept mentioning "switches" and you place these inside the sprocket cover. So do you have a cam mounted on the shifter to activate these switches, or are you using magnetic switches? So 2 switches goes inside the cover, one for upshift and the other one for downshift, right?

There is already a lobe on the bike outside the sprocket cover that can be sensed when you shift.
The ball attached to the shift rod with a clamp. I sense the clamp with limit switches. I also have a neutral tap so I know when I'm in neutral.

The gauge does not missfire, but if it does it resets next time you hit neutral.
It's a hands free operation. If I add features that you can program, I will make it so you can program by using shifting inputs while the bike is turned off.

So far it already has a potentiometer onboard I can use to select what it does if I want using the programming. That will be used for RPM shift light selection though later. You'll turn the dial, the digit will read the RPM you selected, and then the LED will fire when it's time to shift as the bike hit that RPM.

I have a plan for the input already... it's sort of tricky..
all the hardware is onboard already. I just have to do the program part of the shift light.

People that want to modify or update their program can do so by purchasing the programming kit or send it back to me and I'll do it and send it back. The kit to program these chips is $100... and then needs a custom connector to fit my gauges. the programming package I use is outdated... I'm not even sure how to do it with the new USB system they use but haven't tried. I have a serial system and old software.. but they work just fine obviously.

Well i was thinkg of puting on the original panel of the bike... just by the fuel indicator (here in brasil is the temperature, since we dont have fuel indicator).

By the way... do u think u could help me get a fuel indicator on my bike?
I got the FI bikes...
and all we got on that model is a light that tels us that u are almost out o f gas!!!!

I also asked if since i am in brasil and we work in km(kilometers) and not miles, if u have to do any changes for the shifting light to work???

Looking forword for testing it!!!

I don't think any changes will be necessary for miles or KMh.

Not sure about a fuel gauge.
Do you know if your tank has the sensor on it?

Just picked up all the switches and fuses for each unit.

As far as i know there is a sensor...
dont realy know how it works...
what i know is that when it is almost empty it stat to light a light on the panel warning me that i hava almost no fuel

Almost have everything together for 5 kits.
I need to make switch brackets and I'm waiting on digits and processors in the mail. Just about all caught up.


Straight after these are done and shipped I'm going to the RPM addition.
Doesn't look like much but dang that cost me a grip of money to produce. lol
I hope you guys are good at installations. This one will test your patience/skill but I can assure you it works when I install it.. and quite well.

I drove it around today for three hours in 100* weather with no problems even though it runs hot.
I was really pleased with the visibility in the bright sun! I put it down in the fairing some and could see it all day no problem.

What is the RPM addition?

EDIT: Just re-read a couple posts up.
Does V1.0 still give the ability to adjust the shift point relative to RPM? I gathered V1.0 & V2.0 functionally do the same thing, with 2.0 having an easier way to set the shift point.... Did I get that right?

For now the gauge only displays current gear, and the LED fires when the gauge detects a shift. (just a little visual indicator you made a complete shift for now)

Later, the LED will be adjustable to fire when you want to shift at your desired RPM.

The hardware is included already with the gauge onboard, I just have to add a program later for the shift light to work. For now it's just on there looking good and letting you know if you turn the bike on without being in neutral. Will explain more later.

It looks as though there will be one freed up if anyone is interested.
The question is which one of you.

I believe Alex is going to set up a group buy shift gauge thread but leave this thread here for tech support when you guys get the gauges and need install help. If that's what he decides to do.

Discussion of the selling of the gauges has to be kept to the market place from now on.

Sorry for the late post. I am new to the forum. I build stuff like this too. I have a complete hot air reflow SMD rework bench at home if you need some help getting boards stuffed.

BTW, if you want a clean, reliable source of RPM info, pick off one of the stator windings in the alternator. No potential high-voltage spikes you need to clamp.

I did look through and try to find what you were using as a gear position sensor but must have missed it.

I am interested but have one of the older carbureted ninjettes (2006).

Sorry, missed your post for a bit there. We can set you up on the pre-gen too, I don't see why not.
I wouldn't mind having a pregen myself now, like the one they tried to sell me back in '05.

I'm in the middle of gathering resources to complete the second step of the programming now but a good chunk of assembly is sure to follow.

I have actually installed a few gauges on bikes by now that work.
Friday I have another appointment to finish up Adrian's In-Dash gauge after which I'll try and get more video.

Tomorrow have to catch up with crap around home and Sat have more work to do on Sixe'rs bike.
I think sunday or Monday I can come back to the gauges to present what I have completed.

Busy Busy Busy.
The fishing club is wondering where I've been!

I haven't made any more of the ones I was making for a while.

For some reason unknown to me, they were working on some people's bikes and not others'.

One of these days, I need to build a more reliable version.
I think it was something to do with my power regulator design on the board.
The program I wrote seemed to work great.

I may get working on them again one day if there is enough interest.
I think there is people making them in China now to fit any bike though and selling them on ebay.
If they work, I can't compete with China.

I put several hundred bucks into this project and ended up getting nowhere with it.
If I could get somebody to help fund a third and better working version, I'd give it a go.

The project was terminated long ago.

He couldn't source parts for less than what the ebay indicator sells for in a smaller package.... with China and all.
