Your very first post on this board is a link back to kawiforums? Really?

Slicing off the rear fender isn't particularly complicated, a bunch of different ways to do it, and a number of threads on it posted up here. One of them with a number of different options up here, and make sure to check the similar threads area at the bottom of any thread you're interested in, there are likely even a few more to find...

Check your State and Local laws on reflectors, many require all OEM reflectors to be intact, if the PoPo get a bug up their butt they can pull you over for missing reflectors...don't give them any ammo

Many don't care as long as you have a rear red reflector, well in CA at least. I have heard all kinds of stories from people here that have had cops pull them over and say that they could use reflective tape at the rear.

Agreed...local stunters here have the WSP ready to pull over anything that looks like a sport bike, I keep license plates in the correct location and all reflectors intact

i ended up buying a second hand fender from someone that crashed their bike for like 10$

i chopped off the long ugly part, dremmeled it smooth, and had a custom metal number plate/reflector bracket welded up for me that fit in very well.

ill post a pic after i wash my bike later maybe. i tried using a pre-made fender eliminator like the one from sportisi, that cost me about $50, but it just did not fit well, and i am a bit picky when i see gaps, and when i have to force bike parts to almost breaking point to stick together, so i returned it after attempting to make it fit three times, lol.

so my home made one fits perfectly, i still have the little hooks where i can tie a sling to if i need. i still have the blinker bracket, but im not removing that since it has the metal bracket behind it. i plan to close up the holes with some matt black sticker tape or something. haven't gotten round to that since i took off the blinkers and just using the integrated LED blinkers some months back.

the only drawback that i find with having a fender chop/eliminator is when it rains, lol... splatter much...?

Alright, so I know the Free FE is the overall consensus, but what is the best FE kit that requires no cutting? People who have them, what do you recommend?

I got a rumble concepts fender eliminator and it's no cut, but there's gaps around the taillight. I could have massaged it a little to fix the gaps, but I don't mind it. came with a 5 LED tag light and instructions. In order to use the stock signals I had to drill a couple extra holes in the bracket, I've outlined that in this thread: http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=51619

The kit came with a couple plastic bolts and nuts (which I assume are to hold the plate on), and I used those to secure the turn signals instead, hoping that if I dropped the bike the bolts would break before the signal stocks, and so far they've held up really well.

You dont have to leave the ugly license plate light....

I chopped mine clear down to the undertail....no fender eliminator kit.

There is a trick to making it clean....

When you cut it off....leave a little extra.
Then take an x-acto knife and slowly whittle it down flush.
Then take a cigarette lighter, and slowly burnish the edges.

If you do it right, it will look like a factory edge. Its not really all that difficult.

I just replaced the license plate light with a aftermarket light from O'rielly's auto parts store for around 4 bucks.

Thats what my fender cut looks like, just used a hacksaw to chop of the excess, and then used a dremmel to clean up the edges, then fine sandpaper and then a lighter to remove the scratch marks from the sand paper. at the end of all of that its almost not noticeable that it was just cut.

i bought this OEM fender second hand from a crashed bike for like 10 buks, so it was way cheaper than buying an after market piece.

i then modeled the number plate/reflector holder out of some plywood/MDF, which i later gave to a metal workshop and had them copy it with some steel strips. i then had it painted with rust a proofing coat, and then black + clear coat. there i was lucky, and they made it for me for freeeeee, lol (cos i order a lot from them for work ) in those pictures i haven't painted the holder yet actually. took them when i just assembled it to make sure it all fit in...

since i hooked up the LED blinkers ive removed the OEM blinkers, and closed up the holes with a matt black sticker. still looks good

Which Fender Eliminator should I get?

Hey guys. I'm new to riding and want to get rid of that ugly fender on my bike. I'm not good with modding and electronics and stuff so I'm looking for a no cut kit that would be easy to install.

Which one should I get?

I have the ProjektD Fender Eliminator. I highly recommend it if your planning on keeping your stock turn signals and license plate light. Looks OEM. And is 100% no cut. I little steep on pricing, but worth it IMO.

I like the rumble concepts eliminator I bought (there's a DIY for the slight mod I had to do to make the stock blinkers fit). only complaint is the bolts they sent are starting to rust a bit, so I might look for some nicer stainless hardware.

Fender eliminator kit suggestions?

Hey everybody! Looking into a fender eliminator kit. I've seen a lot of information about the Projekt D kit that looks pretty decent.

Know of a comparable option that uses stock parts and doesn't involve cutting anything? Looking for a price range of around $100 or less.
Thanks in advance!!

I have the Project D kit, and I love it.
The idea was to keep all stock parts, so if I ever sell the bike, I could return it back to stock, and ebay the aftermarket parts, since we all know you won't get any money for mods when you sell the bike.

I was looking for a kit that:

- would require 0 cutting
- had options on using the factory signals and plate light, OR not ( I chose not )
- was under $100

The Project D probably the only one I found that did this for me. I am very happy with it.

Targa offers one with no cutting, I used original tail lights. The only thing I had to cut was the license plates light wire and spliced it to the LED light that comes with it.

The sample on that site looks pretty nice! Was the splicing of the license plate light wire necessary? Does the kit come with one?

If you have a picture of yours that would be super helpful! =) Thanks for the input

the kit comes with a LED plate light with different connectors, I just cut the EOM plate light wire a few inches back from the connector and spliced it so the new light would have the EOM connector. The light that came with mine is that style C L posted not the bolt style light like on their website.

I like the R&G one. They have the best solution for lighting the license plate.

http://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade...view/6074/832/

I decided I would try the free option first, and if I didn't like it, I'd go with the kit. My dremel worked out very well and Amazon.com has some very nice LED license plate frames to take care of the tag light.

I have an Evotech kit. It is higher quality than the Targa kit - if you search these forums, you'll find some complaints on fit with the Targa. I also have an Evotech exhaust hanger. Both well machined, good quality. Install was easy. MCmotorcycleparts has an Ebay store, and is the only US distributor. Nice guy, good service, and high quality parts. He happens to be on vacation at the moment, returning on Nov. 30.

I have a yoshimura fender elim kit.

It's pretty high quality and everything fit perfect. Also allows you to use the stock blinkers if you choose to do so.

I'll post pics of them later

Well I already had cut the stock tail a bit. but for the gosh kit the only thing I had to cut was the stock license plate wire. You have to use the connector for the light

Fender Eliminator for 2012 Ninja 250R

Hey guys I'm getting ready to purchase my first motorcycle and it's going to be the 2012 Ninja 250. I learned to ride on a Honda CBR600 F4I and decided to go with the 250 so I dont kill myself, plus I will be mainly riding in the mountains. My question is what fender eliminator kit should I purchase? There are many kinds out there and most I see say that they are for 08-11 models. To my understanding the 08-12 are all the same aside from graphics and color. Am I missing something here? I am looking for a kit that requiers no destruction of the stock fender. Thanks for the help in advance.

Any 08-11 kit should work. I don't believe the fender has been changed from 11 - 12

And any fender eliminator requires destruction of the stock fender, that's the point isn't it?

Targa is one that you don't cut or damage the original fender, the only thing that I did installing mine was cut the license plate light to splice in the LED light.

Does anyone have a nice detailed step by step DIY with one of the eliminator kits out there? I mean pictures and in depth instructions. I skrew stuff up easily and don't really want to mess this up. I was thinking about the competition werks metal fender eliminator kit.

I'll throw another vote for project D. It took about a week to get it, buts truly a no cut install, and completely 100% reversible. It comes with 2 different plate brackets: 1 that is really short and doesn't have any turn signal or plate light mounting spots, and another that is a little longer to accommodate mounting spots for the stock plate light and rear turn signals. Mine took about an hour to install without ever having taken the bike apart before. I ended up using the longer bracket for now until i can order my integrated taillight and led plate light, but as soon as i order those it'll get even shorter.

Where are you in NC? I might be able to help with the install if you need it.

I vote for ProjectD also. No cutting and was installed in 30 minutes.
