I did the quick and dirty hacksaw special as well.

Once I get more time, I will actually dremmel the fender and cut it to get rid of that license plate light hump and snug things up a bit.

Looking for one for my black 08 Ninja ive seen some but not sure which one to get, the previous owner of the bike kind chopped the back end up and cut the fender off so i dont know if i will need additional parts to make a fender kit work. Any suggestions on nice eliminator kits?

Well idk exacally what he did but there is a led tail light with the turn signals in the tail light, but there is no bracket for the plate it was held on by zip ties...lol

If all you need to do is mount your license plate, buy two L-shaped brackets from your local parts store + bolts & nuts (home depot/lowes), then pop off the rear seat & drill some holes to mount the two brackets.
After cutting my fender, that's what I did.

Which is the best Fender Eliminator Kit?

I have narrowed it down to two choices because they supply lighting and a flush plate mount.

Anyone with insight is welcomed to respond.

Looking for an easy install, of course no cutting would be the easiest.

Please let me know if there is another good choice I may have missed!

Seriously, do not waste your money on one of these. All you need to do is follow the instructions on the DIY Fender eliminator kit here:http://www.2fiddy.com/2008/07/how-to...er-eliminator/ to cut the fender off and then get 2 bolts that are exactly the same as the two used to hold your tail light in place, except an inch longer. With the cut fender gone they will poke through the bottom between the turn signal lights. Take 2 small rectangle brackets (made by Stanley, at Lowes) that cost about a dollar, bend them to a 90 degree angle with a vice and pliers and bolt them to the bolts sticking through. Use lock washers! Then attach the original plate mount to those brackets and call it done. For about 5 bucks worth of parts and an hour or so of your time you can make it look just as good. You have to make cuts no matter what kit you get. Trust me, I did my research and came to the same conclusion. Take that money and buy something meaningful with it.

I have the Yoshimura eliminator and did not have to cut anything... You take the old one off and put the new one on... There is a little bit of re-assembly required if you re-use the stock turn signals, but it's not too bad... And it's a bit expensive, but it's really clean looking!

Yeah, I didn't put any plate lighting on it either. But I'm sure for another couple bucks you could get a light housing to wire into the harness for the original light. My plate is right up under my tail light and at night it illuminates it great. You might check with the laws in your state to see if its required. From what I understand nobody really gets messed with about that, ususally its going 120mph that gets them pulled over.

I also know there is a light that mounts to a screw hole in the license plate that can illuminate it as well. Not sure if its wired in or runs on batteries but if your really worried that may work.

Also, and my dad used to say this to me and I thought he was an idiot but problems are really just opportunities in disguise. Get creative and figure it out on your own and you'll be much happier with it in the end. Once you get it set up you'll wonder why people pay that much for it.

Icyknight - yeah, thats a clean looking setup. From what I understood all the kits required cutting. I stand corrected . But still, thats alot of money for something you could DIY for a couple bucks. If you like to tinker, I say go for it. Otherwise pony up and pay up!

No worries. Just giving my experience with the kit!

This was one of the first major mods I did to the bike... I am glad I went with the kit though... I knew I didn't just want to cut the back part off and I wanted a clean 'finished' look. That said, I have seen a few DYI on Youtube and Google searches that looked pretty good too.

Understood. This was the first thing I did to my bike as well. I've got a dremel and all the little pieces/bits/attachments that made this possible. I like to do my own work so I knew what I was getting involved with. There are a few scuff marks and places where I could have polished it out a little more so I won't say its perfect, but you'd have to really look to notice. I had the right tools and the time which made it alot easier. If someone isn't so equipped then buying the kit may cost the same as their time and going out and buying the tools to do it. For me, buying the kit was not worth it.

I just ordered and received the competition werkes fender eliminator, but wish I saw the Yoshimura before hand because it is a much better buy.

Yoshimura retain the factory straps, is no-cut and looks cleaner in my opinion.

I already spray painted the competition werkes black so I can't return it.

That sucks. Thanks guys for all the insight. A $0 DIY mod is def. appealing, but a Yoshimura is manufactured to look sick and work well hence the cost factor.

Last thing I want to do is jack up the OEM fender and then still have to order a kit.

At least if i sell the bike I can reuse my kit.

Unless you just like wasting money, I'd go the DIY route, especially if you already have a dremel. If you're worried about plate lighting, pick up some led plate bolts on ebay for about $7. I went to Oreilly Auto parts and got some blue led light things and placed them on the metal pieces by the cargo hooks, so they shine down onto the plate (colored plate lights are not illegal here). And the bolts/L-brackets will cost you a couple dollars if you don't have them already.

If you did screw up horrifically (just take your time) then a replacement OEM fender is like $30

I have no electrical experience, never used a dremel, etc, but managed just fine.

I'd have to say go with the Yoshimura kit. I just installed one on my bike last weekend and it looks great. There is no cutting involved and the install is fairly easy.

That was another reason I liked this kit, cause if in the future I decide to go to an all-in-one brake light, I can take them off without getting another kit! Plus, you have the option of leaving on or taking off the hooks (which I obviously) left on...

If you read my post on new ninja I don't want to hack anything on my bike. I want to be able to return to factory if needed or what ever. And with this kit when I want to get a integrated taillight it's easy to switch over.

The Project D is not bad, but I prefer the flush mount of the plate with the bottom of the bike. It just looks much cleaner.

I guess this is why I'd rather just get the kit instead of the hacking away at the OEM fender.

But kudos to those who have done this successfully.

okay okay, i know hbr has a bad rep. but ive had no problems with mine, i got the smoked undertail that hides the tail light, and it has built in turn signals and tag light, but what kind of rider leaves their stuff alone?? i put led integrated tail lights in mine

You know what, I'm going to do this. At first I was scared of messing up the fender, but even if I do I can then either get one of these kits or get another Kawi fender for cheaper and try again.

So clean! Do you have close up pics so we know where you made the cuts and all that, or is it pretty clear where to cut to get that look, once you are doing it?

Sorry for the lateness of my post @edxmon, I got caught up in the "It's freaking friday!" madness lol. Ok, here are a couple of shots I took just now, I recently spray painted the screws black for better visuals, the flash on my phone made it appear wet and sticky, it actually looks phenomenal in person (brushing dust off my shoulder ).

anyone try one of these ? Targa fender eliminator kit This was the one i was going to get in a few weeks, it was the only one i found that required no cutting what so ever. They have two different ones, one that use stock wires and another that comes with smaller lites for like $10 more, but that one causes you to have to splice your lite wires so then it rules out the no modification to stock parts.

Anyone have a link on the yoshi?

I'm decently handy but i would not want to do any cutting, cant afford to fix something if i break it or have to order another part.

Anyone try or heard anything from the Targa?

Yeah, I was considering this one, given the price. Upon further research, I found that you get what you pay for, and it's not a well-made kit. If you absolutely refuse to DIY, then spend a bit more and get a higher quality one.
