Any thoughts about this tire pressure monitoring system?
I've been looking at TPMS for a while but have been put off by the $200+ price tag. Here's one I just found today for $72 but I can't seem to find any reviews on it.
http://www.amazon.com/Accutire-MS-43...756870&sr=1-11 The main disadvantage I see is that the receiver is meant to be mounted in a garage as opposed to on the bike, but I'm betting I could rig a way to bike-mount it. |

IMO, I rather just check the tire pressure(with a tire pressure guage) monthly and save the money for something else...

Not a fan of any of those systems, as they disable the Schrader valve in order to monitor pressure. So the only thing keeping the air in the tire is this screwcap, rather than the valve that is designed to take care of it whether or not there is an air-tight seal at the cap.
Motorcycle Consumer News reviewed a whole pile of different tire monitoring systems awhile back, and after experiencing a number of leaks their general recommendation was to avoid every one of them unless they came with the bike stock (and therefore had internal pressure sensors in the wheels). link to related thread

I'd rather spend $10 on a nice digital tire gauge and do it on my pre-ride checks than spend a lot of money on a "monitoring" system.

+1 $10 one time purchase for digital guage, no tire unmounting required.

Kind of difficult checking tire pressure while cruising down the highway at speed. I check my tires every time I ride, have a nice gauge for doing that. What I'm wanting to know is if I pick up a puncture while in motion. Plus, it's a gadget, and I like gadgets.
To the poster commenting about Consumer Reports, do you know if this one was mentioned? |

I don't know if they tested this particular one, but it's the same design. Some were the manual ones that have a gauge right at the end of the valve, some were remote like this one.

it's gonna be bad for the schrader valve, like mr. alex said it's gonna disable the the thing and also at high speed the cap (which is heavier and less aerodynamic )would probably bend the valve and do damage to it too.(The guy who holds the fastest speed record for a ninja 250 in northern america told me.)

I don't buy the aerodynamics theory at all, the air flow there is mainly turbulent and not linear. However, the weight issue may be a problem. In any case, I checked Amazon for reviews on other products from this company and the other TPMS products that have reviews tend to not be particularly good.

I agree on Frugal's aero comments, I don't think it would have any effect within the wheel. I would though agree that adding any extra weight to the valve stem isn't a great idea, as it does provide additional stress that it may have not been designed for. They did have to change the design of the valve stems on the ZX-12R after it was released as at high speeds the rotational force was causing them to bend and start leaking. But - they were also spinning a wee bit faster than we'd manage to on a 250R.

I forgot what the exact words the guy used, but basically he said that it's not a good idea to put a tire measure thingy in there. He was really nice to talk to and very knowledgeable. he also told me that if my heart was set on putting those things in there then do it, but he doesn't recommend it and lol I think he can go on and on about the 250's he was pretty cool.

This is one instance where even I, Techno Tard, have gone digital. I'm in Fl. and anyone in an extreme state weather wise should check their air at least weekly. (monthly).
