Jewelry
So, I got into a discussion about wearing jewelery while riding. Mostly stemmed about wearing a dog tag since someone gave me one. I wish I could wear it, but it just seems.. risky.
I don't wear any jewelry but barbell earrings. You guys? |

I have a necklace given to me by my parents when I was 13. I rarely take it off. I don't see a problem with dog tags (ones with rubber around it) as long as it's inside your shirt or jacket. I also wear a watch and my wedding ring. Nothing seems to cause any discomfort or concern if I go down.

I wear wedding ring, watch and dog tag (in rubber case) on my motorcycle and bicycles. The dog tag has my name, allergies, meds and emergency contact listed.
Ordered my dog tags HERE. There are a lot of places online to get them from that are pretty good deals. |

Im just going to speak from experience here.
After going down a couple of times on a bike. I didnt have any problems with rings...since they were under gloves. Watches/Bracelets however...either break, or they shred up your wrist and the top of your hand. Perticularly if they have metal bands. Necklaces...no big deal. Never had a problem with them. Id recommend sticking with short chains though. Earrings would be inside your helmet. I dont wear earrings...so I dont know there. The biggest contributer to injury in what I would consider jewelry is your belt. If you wear belts with the large metal buckles, they will bruise the &%&*#$&$ out of your pelvis/stomach when you go down. |

I've got 12 gauge hoops in my ears, wedding band on each hand and a watch. They're all covered by my gear, but the watch I wear when riding is a cheap rubber sport watch rather than the nice steel one I usually wear.

I wear my medic bracelet all of the time. It fits nicely in my gloves. I don't wear any other jewelry.

i think there's a bit of a difference between talking about cupcakes and posting profanity and links pornography.
but anyway back on topic, i used to wear a watch while i rode but found after a bit of riding it would wind up messing with the skin so now i don't wear anything.

I wear I necklace all the time, I highly doubt it will harm me in a get off. I wear a watch too but sometimes I take it off since it gets annoying under my gloves and jacket.

Only potential issue with a necklace is that it could catch on something (like the handlebars, a passing tree, the exhaust of a car as you slide under ) and choke you. It is pretty unlikely, but possible, and this sort of thing is why they make safety clasps for necklaces. This type of breakaway clasp is often required in factories (and paranoid schools and offices) and makes sense to me for motorcycle, too. The clasp is made with a built in tear strength so it doesn't break with normal use, but it will break before your windpipe does.
Very easy to put onto any normal necklace you would use. I'm not sure what the actual risk is, or if there is any evidence of it being useful in motorcycle crashes, only that it is required in some factories and schools to avoid strangulation risks, and that my last job required it for lanyards holding our security badges. Edit: Point of interest, if you search "breakaway clasp" in google images with safe search off, you get some interesting lingerie photos with easy off garter belts.

i wear it all, stud earing, watch, my engagement ring, my necklace even my belly button ring...i don't have a problem with any of it, however i did try to wear hoop earings once, thats a BIG mistake. I almost ripped my ear lobe off taking off my helmet.

I dont ride yet, but I have 2 things. I got 4 piercings 2 in each ear. The lower earrings are fine but the cartilage hurts like hell in a helmet. I'd just be careful taking off the helmet too, you dont want your earings to start tearing the lining. Not to mention the possibility of some how your helmet flys off (which it really shouldn't, at all, ever!) and tugs on your earrings ripping your ears is a scary thought to me.
I think when I do start riding though, I wont wear anything while I ride. Of course, thats just me talking. Most likely I will. But I'm a security officer and took CPR, First aid and AED classes. When they taught us AED we were told never take off any jewelry, even if it conducts electricity. The person training us even said we will most certainly smell burning skin and it's happened to her before. Earrings, watches, rings, necklaces, and ect can conduct electricity and if I go down and for some reason they have to use an AED, I dont want burning flesh added to my injuries. But that's an absolute worst case scenario. |

A wedding ring, 2 nose studs, and 7 earrings here. I never wear a watch and only wear necklaces/bracelets when dressed up or at work.
Never had a problem with the earrings as they require pliers to remove, but I did have to take out my favorite earring (a rook piercing) after I learned to ride because it just never played nice with the helmet. I still miss that piercing. I used to have Other Things pierced as well and never had an issue with them either. I think as long as the piercing heals nicely, you won't have trouble with the helmet/clothing rubbing against it (I know someone who wore a large gauze pad taped over her navel ring when riding while it was healing and apparently that worked quite well).

I have 2 lobe, 2 anti-tragus, and a cartilage in the upper ear. No issues but sometimes I have to twist the helmet a little because my ear will fold under on the side with the cartilage.

I'm diabetic and wear a medical alert necklace stating that I'm a Juvenile Diabetic and my name in case of any emergency. The only time I don't wear it is when I'm swimming. It stays tucked underneath my shirt about 98% of the time.

I think my necklace would break long before it starts to choke me.
