S O 24 Trip to the USS Shenandoah

What is an S O 24 trip? It's somewhere you can go that takes only 24 hours to complete. I layed out the ride and told my buddy Nate to meet half way which was Zoar/Bolivar off of I -77. From there we made it down to Rt 78 turned left and went to Caldwell Firemans Festival. I just love the small towns, everyone comes out for the yearly festival! I had corn on the cobb and Nate has a Kielbasa sandwich. All good. It was getting too late dusk falling didn't want to smack a deer while trying to look for Big Muskie so we headed down I-77 to Marietta and spent the night at the Lafayette Hotel. Built around 1835 it's a must do bucket list thing. Managed to find my way to the roof top bar where a Captain and Coke smoothed out the wrinkles in my forehead!
Next morning we headed north on all the twisties we could find and ended up at Big Muskie which at one time the worlds largest dragline. Sadly only the bucket remains. Finally called Theresa Rayner curator of the USS Shenandoah museum and meet her for a tour. The lighter than air ship went down in Noble County in 1925. In September make your way to Ava, Ohio where the 90th anniversary will take place. Finally I managed to get to 10,000 miles on this trip so I had to pull over and get a pic! About 465 miles door to door in just about 24 hours. Hope you enjoyed my short trip. Wardie

I like those kind of trips, just go out and find a place to hang out for a day then back home. Had some great adventures on the home bound leg many times.

The Roof Top bar at the Lafayette Hotel in Marietta, Ohio was cool. Nice view overlooking the river area and a little breeze to cool you off.
