Fairings....
Once upon a time, my bike was dropped. The fairings are cracked in a few places, and they make some crazy noises going down the road sometimes. I eventually want to replace my fairings, not sure on the color really either.
How difficult is it to do a fairing swap? Any one recommend buying certain fairings, etc etc? Thanks in advance. |

Pulling the stock fairings off and putting stock ones back on is really simple. Here's a DIY showing removing the fairings, installing them is just in reverse.
http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=9933 As far as color, ColorRite shows three colors for the 2012 Candy Lime Green Metallic Spark Black Used on Black Special Edition and Red/Black Special Edition Passion Red Used on Red/Black Special Edition Ok, the biggest thing IMO is DO NOT BUY NEW! Kawi is ungodly proud of their plastics and the bloody things are bathed in gold. Best bet for OEM plastic is search ebay or craigslist or your favorite forum for folks parting out their bike. If you search fairings on ebay, you will find uber cheap Chinese plastics. The upside, they are SUPER cheap. The downside, they may not fit exactly or you may have to drill out the tabs to mount the fairings. There are a few threads here on the quality and fit of the Chinese stuff. I think someone here ( @tfkrocks ?) repaired theirs with ABS Weld or something like that. Depending on the break, that may be an option too.

ABS cement alone works well for minor or generally stable cracks. I've gotten away with just ABS cement on the backside of minor stable cracks. Sanding down and around the crack will provide better results but will require smoothing out and repainting to look nice. Larger cracks may need fiberglass sheets on the back for reinforcement (I learned that the hard way lol).

Hey there's always the bodykit world to choose from these days. It now appears that Saitaniya has the Ducati 1098 kit for sale that was previously only available from short-lived Indonesian makers, as well as the 636 nose and various other pieces in plastic or carbon fiber.
Right now I can't decide on that 636 nose, or the full 1098 kit. |

Maybe take a look here http://tyga-performance.com/th/index...2_1045_791_792 for original oem-parts, i.e. fairings for app. 160 USD (1 USD = 35 THB).

I second the ABS cement for repairs found here. My turn signal broke a hole through the fairings big enough for it to go inside the fairings when I lowsided. Glued easily and holds very well. The crack is visible somewhat, but I did nothing to hide it.

ABS cement should work for all but the big hole. The only way to deal with that without major hassle/repaint (which is unlikely to look that good) is to just get replacement pieces in the same color. Bummer that the hole spans two panels.
If it were me I'd mend the cracks and just leave the hole alone.

the better fix is fiberglass repair (for the love of god don't get any in your eyes...trust me...) and some touch up paint or stickers

The duct tape on mine was concealing the usual "dropped in the driveway, turn signal punched a hole" damage that almost every bike seems to get at some point. Bad design, Kawi.
Since I've popped a hole in the new fairing I got, I left the hole. Folks laugh and point to it, but hey I've got a good story for when it happened, where I was, and why I was there. Battle scar stories!

Honestly, i will probably wait to do anything with it, unless the cracks get worse. I figured there wasn't much i could do with the hole, it's just there. Once upon a time we will probably put new fairings on it, but it really just depends.
Thanks for the input |
