Zipper to connect the pants to your jacket

So I bought a SS Moment of Truth Mesh jacket when I got my bike.

My question is it possible to for example buy an Alpinestars A-10 pants and zip it with the zipper on my Speed and Strenght jacket? Or I must have the same brand in order to use the function?

It depends on the what kind of zipper. Generally same manufacturers are compatible with leather to leather or textile to textile; not leather to textile usually. However, you should have the mating half of the zipper with your jacket which can be sewed to the new pants or vice versa. Manufactures do change zippers from time to time though. Last year I bought a pair of AGV Sport Willow leather pants with the intent to buy a matching jacket at some point in the future. The pants have YBS zippers and the new jackets have YKK zippers so they won't zip out of the box.

I was wondering this myself. Pants are the only thing I don't have yet. My Chicane has YKK zippers, do I just look for pants that have them as well and they should match up?

Maybe, maybe not. I haven't found anything that zips with astars stuff except more astars stuff. Dainese kind of worked but the zips still don't quite match. Is the zipper pull on the jacket? Astars almost always puts the pull on the pants.

I guess I have no choice but to go to the store and "fit" to see. I'll update what I learn from the store.

I was at House of Motorcycles yesterday (big sale... didn't bother buying anything, thankfully because I came home and looked up the sale items on motorcycle-superstore and they were cheaper online )

Anyway, the AGVSport Willow leather pants zipper went one direction and my Joe Rocket Speedmaster jacket went the opposite direction. Which just means that I would have to change one or the other for them to work. Most alterations shops are capable of this, so no big deal. Not sure if this helped or not... just figured I'd share my findings

All my jackets and pants came with both the male & female zippers.

Unzip from the jacket and sew onto the pant or visa versa.

As most of my riding leather pants are from one mfg and jackets from several different I have sewn into the jackets the matching zipper from the pant.

Some jackets have 3 zippers and some pant (A*) have 3 zippers now.

Yes it is fun trying to match zippers behind you.

Someone needs to make zipper adapters to mix and match.

Usually, the manufacturers sell extras. Just buy the one you need, and either sew it on yourself, or take it to a local tailor. I did that with my leather jacket to sip to me JR textile pants.

You're right. I even have a couple. Mixing and matching for several different items, like three jackets and two pants, adapters might still be handy, so sewing two of them together would be even more useful!

Zippers can go either way and be of different types/sizes, even within brand. It's nuts. Would be great if we could get consensus on this within the industry.

My solution: Go to a craft/sewing store with pants in hand and buy a zipper that matches. If you can't find one, you'll find them on ebay. Sew the appropriate half into the jacket. It's dead simple if you've got access to a sewing machine, and neatness doesn't matter. You don't need to remove the existing zipper, either. I've done this multiple times.

You can even do it by hand. Takes longer but it works fine. level of difficulty is right up there with sewing a button on, which is to say that it's about as hard as putting your underwear on correctly. This ain't rocket surgery, folks.

If you don't have access to a sewing machine and aren't excited about doing it by hand, find some place that does alterations (often dry cleaners offer basic tailoring services).

I bought a long zipper for my textile pants/jacket and added them myself. I also, added the material. It works great and did my hubbys too. it wasnt to hard with a machine.
