What do you do with your gear?

My wife suggested heading up to the Wisconsin state fair this weekend - it's about a 1.5 hour drive and sounded like a great excuse for a Ninja trip.

Then she asked "what do we do with our gear when we get there?"

I'm coming up blank. I pretty much only ride to work, school, or family members' houses so we always just bring everything in and stick it somewhere.

What does everyone do with helmets, jackets, boots, etc. when you go somewhere?

one way I have done it is bringing my bike cover along with me. I hook helmet to rear seat and pile rest of gear onto the seat then put the cover over the entire thing. Hides it all well.

That could work! I'm pretty sure my cover has a strap that can be secured with a padlock for extra security too.

Most of the time I rarely bother taking everything off and just wear it around. Eh, it works for me (except in tiny narrow little spiral staircases).

But when I do go somewhere and am planning on being there awhile...

I have a gun safety lock on my rear peg to lock my helmet down. I also carry a bicycle cable lock to run through my jacket sleeves and lock to the triple tree, this also serves to lock down my camelback. Boots and pants I just wear, they are comfortable enough for me to stroll around in.

Gloves and stuff go in my tail bag. Electronics either end up in my tank bag that I carry with me, or stuffed into my backpack when I feel like carrying that instead.

This could work - still need to figure out what to do with my boots. I leave them on when I go to class as I'm mainly just sitting for 3 hours but they're definitely not what I want to walk around the state fair all day in.

I also do the cable lock through the sleeves thing, and I lock the pants and helmet on the same cable. I don't know what to tell you about the boots. Maybe bring a big enough day pack? It would get heavy after a while...

We ended up just taking the car. Convertibles aren't too bad.

It was probably a bit long of a trip for my level of highway experience anyway. I'm researching good rides near Chicago now, I think it would be a good idea for our first longer ride to be pleasure-only and not a means of transportation to an event.
