Do you flick off other drivers?

Before I got into bikes, I've never been known to road-rage and/or flick off other cagers... but now, I find myself flicking off someone every other day for idiotic car maneuvers.

I really should focus more on what's in front of me vs. making sure the other guy sees my finger... but it feels so good

i dont, i just usually let it go if they do something stupid. but i will honk my horn. i think flicking them off could make them even worse of a driver.

I remember one day a couple years back when I actually gave 3 different people the bird within about 3 minutes. I was driving down the street from work to get lunch and almost got hit 3 times.

I've often thought that it's my obligation to inform other driver's when they're idiots. It's entirely possible that they believe that riding up the a$$ of a biker or not checking their blind spots is OK...so Yes, I occasionally tutor the ignorant cagers. Once I even managed to throttle lock, turn, and tutor a cage with both hands at the same time.

Lately though, I've found that a better tact of more defensive driving requires less re-education.

I've found the "finger technique" does nothing. It often just shows how mad you are. Plus the driver of that car is going to drive that way no matter what happens. My friends wife is a compulsive tailgater. Its to the point nobody likes to ride with her. She just drives like that. He even said she has tried to break the habit, but she goes back to doing it again.

So it isn't always people trying to be a pain in the butt, some just drive like that, and giving them the finger won't change that.

I never flick off drivers. I feel they are probably used to it. I give them the index finger out, thumb cocked, and shoot them. I never miss either.

I just curse them behind my tinted visor and shake my head in disgust. Nobody's perfect and everyone has done a stupid thing on the road that wasn't intended when in a cage. It's easy to cut someone off especially when you have a crazy rider sneaking beside you at 100mph in a 50 zone waving between lane. You can't see these a*#!holes.

Reminds me of the guy I passed a few weeks ago. He had a phone in his right hand talking on it, a drink in his left, and he was holding up his left hand to help block the sun from his eyes. Hmmm....I wonder what he is driving with.

I think the US is too easy on drivers. I think there should be a law where you can't do anything that distracts you. Especially putting on makeup, using a cell phone and eating. I've even tried to eat and drive, and I'm better off not doing it. Phones are one of the most distracting objects in a car.

Hrmm this is interesting. I'm actually the opposite of this, where I'm flipping less people off WHEN i'm on the bike....usually because my hands are busier. In the car I'm flipping everything that moves off....drivers, riders, pedestrians, children....even small, helpeless, furry animals.

I hope it wasn't hot coffee. If he spilt any he would have to sue the store that served him.

I love the people with the little dog on their lap as they are driving. Talk about distraction.

I flicked off a lady once, she pulled out in front of me while looking right at me.
And I used Oscar's gesture once to at a stupid kid talking on his cellphone as he cut me off.
He kinda freaked and sped away, guess he thought I had a gun in my glove.
Other than that, I have just honked the horn...

No way

I'm a lover, not a fighter.

I'll do the "I feel sorry, for you, you poor idiot" head shake.

I try not to whne I'm on the bike, cause you never know what kind of idiot it is - plus once when I was in my car in downtown richmond, I did that to some stupid chick who was stopped in the middle of the road chatting with a friend on the sidewalk, and a few blocks later she was flying up beside me screaming - do you want to die bitch? so it makes me a bit more conservative with the middle finger, especially when I'm not protected by the cage - but sometimes it's just required...
One thing I do consistently is that when I'm on the twisties and some fool comes around the curve on my side of the double yellow, I always lay on the horn until after they've passed me.... probably won't do any good, but maybe they'll be afraid of big bad biker coming after them next time...

Never

Road rage is not worth it.

Not on a bike. (never in my car either. but especially not on the bike)

Never know who might try to retaliate when provoked.

Yea I did that the other day, guy cut me off so I flicked him off and he slammed on brakes, like he was about to get out and do something so I pulled out my ak and started shooting everywhere. I exagerated a little bit at the end but hey, it could have happened.

i flip people off when they deserve it, and my guns are always visible, and i've never once had anyone talk back. i just hope its because they know they were in the wrong, and not because they know i'd shoot them in a heartbeat. that "no duty to retreat" would certainly apply if someone was acting like they were going to hit you with their car. And the response that I had thought of before I saw Joes and agreed with what he said.

"Are you crazy? If you believe the news, half of Socal is part a gang and they are so many SUV's on the road here these gangbangers will run you over and be happy they saved their ammo for their next regularly scheduled drive by."

BUT since Kurosaki posted something that sounds better, I will just give a
to him

and now back to my pancakes and coffee

Sounds fun, but in practice...i'd like to see you whip out a pistol in time to save yourself from being hit the first time. If you happen to avoid it, and they turn around for another pass, sure, plenty of time to stop and shoot em. Whole thing really isnt worth it to flip a finger or otherwise piss off someone...sadly it wont make them a better driver either.

and thats why my guns are visible, hopefully just the sight of them would make someone think twice before chasing me down. and if they did so anyway, i wouldn't hesitate to shoot them. i seriously hope im never in that situation, but there are crazy drivers out there. i dont evne mind the occasional screw up by the drivers, that happens to all of us. but then they pull out in fornt of me without even looking my direction, i'll flip them the finger or lay on the horn, or anything else i can do to startle them enough to just think next time.

I bet it's the helmet with the dark visor.

The more anonymous one is, the less one has to give a sh*t about being polite.

Eh, kinda goes both ways. If anything, I'm *more* recognizable in my bright orange Troy Corser replica helmet and neon green bike than I am in my car.

When I first got into riding years ago, maybe a couple of times.
I find that it just brings you down to the idiot level of the other driver. They can drive away thinking you're the bad guy cuz you gave 'em the finger "over nothing..."

Now I've learned that if I see bad driving, the best thing to do is put as much distance as possible between me and said poor driver.

Unless this is actually your intention and you want to know how many people go around flicking at bad drivers... IMO that'd be a good thread.

Flip off. Originating from "flipping the bird." A term used to describe one of the many hand gestures to represent the many different ways to tell someone to get f'ed.

[/PSA]

The few times I have done anything to incite and play into road rage, it has ALWAYS ended badly for me. So no. Though I do flip people off a lot, just not while driving.

Never. Too much angry in the world already, no point in helping it along.

I try to look ahead and behind/beside me frequently to see if I can spot any aggressive/negligent driving, if I see it, I'll back off or speed ahead. My best defense against bad driving is to do everything I can to not be around it.

If I'm forced to drive in thick traffic I'll let people cut in front (if they want it that bad, they can have it) and I'll make sure to make eye contact with people beside me and give the people behind me some warning by flicking my brake lights a bit, and sitting straight up on the bike. I find if they see me, there's less a chance of them doing something Flip-able.

My last, and best trick is looking for the larger pattern. If you look in front of you and behind you and realize the entire collection of cagers is driving like crack addled monkies, pick another road entirely. Bikes are all about freedom, don't stay in a situation that gives you the wigguns.

I thought we were talking about flicking boogars! You mean you like to give the bad finger meaning "F U"? Why would someone do that?

I've had two bad wrecks because of idiot drivers.
1. A guy turned in front of me & i hit him doing 75mph, went across the hood of his car & lived to tell about it.
2. A car backed out into the road i was on, had to lay her down on the pavement to keep from hitting the car.

The first wreck, guy said he didn't see me. The second wreck the car drove off as i was attempting to get up, but the people in the back seat were looking back at me as they drove off.

I usually don't flip anybody off, but i do let them know I'm not happy when they do something stupid that could cost me my life, and that sometimes happens multiple times a week.

Most of the time somebody is on a cell phone, in a hurry or just not paying attention.

I usually don't flip/flick people off. I figure since those dumb ****s didn't see me in the first place, they sure as hell ain't gonna see my little finger in the air.

But laying on the horn (in the cage) or redlining the bike usually suffices. That way they can hear my '**** you' loud and clear.

I'm definitely going to try blasting em away with my pointer finger if they're looking right at me next time.

I do it in the canyon twisties when the driver comes around a blind corner on my side of the road.

I never do it when anywhere else.
