Adrenaline starts rushing...

6:55 AM

Knee guards on...
Rain pants on...
Boots on...
Jacket on...
ear plugs in...
helmet liner on...
helmet on...
gloves on...

START YOUR ENGINE! (Adrenalin rush stops briefly due to the pathetic sound)

visor down...

I feel I'm heading to a race everyday and I just can't get enough!

On a side note, I'm somehow delaying my purchase of Subaru BRZ because I feel it will just sit in my garage with little use. I used to be a real sports car type but somehow lost interest in them due to riding. I'm being called a hard-core rider at work now because I ride all year long. Only ice can stop me.

Actually, it's really hard to stop on ice!

same here, my bugeye sees so little road time now it kinda makes me sad, and I haven't pulled the trigger yet on a BRZ for the same reason. Its hard enough splitting the time between two bikes.

Get the BRZ!!! It's always a nice backup to have a sporty little car for the nasty, cold, rainy days when you don't want to get out of bed and put the leathers on.

Yeah I used to be really into my car too, and now it's so dusty and covered in spiderwebs practically lol. I love this bike, but I go trough phases where I will prefer one or the other more.

Haha I had thoughts of selling my bike for a BRZ since I wanted one so bad from the day the concept was announced. But I'll just get one next year sometime. I think the BRZ would be the kind of car to get me to drive it from time to time.

One of my neighbors has (maybe had, I think he might have traded it off already) a BRZ. I wasn't even sure what it was the first time I saw it, so I put the googles to work. Me likey.

Are the BRZ/FRS any different at all? Like different suspension tune at all? Because I like them, I'm just wondering which one I should get once I graduate and get a big-boy job.

I believe the only differences in the two are that the BRZ has nicer options (GPS, leather, stereo, etc.) but nothing performance related. I'd stick with the Scion and save a few grand.

You all know you're going to throw on coilovers anyways. I would go for the Toyoter personally.

I am fairly certain that the FRS only comes in one trim. The only option you can pick is the color. Correct me if i am wrong.

The FR-S's suspension is tuned for more oversteer whereas the BRZ is tuned to be more neutral. Other than that not much difference between them besides the cosmetics and interior. Scion offers a better incentive for graduates so I might end up with an FR-S over the BRZ, but I like the look of the BRZ more and its options.

There is a difference in suspension between the FRS and BRZ. Toyota tuned their version to resemble a FWD car while the Subaru understeers more like their AWD cars.

Nothing that can't be fixed with a new sway bar set.

Neither of them understeers. There were maybe a couple reviews saying that but most say both are easy to get to oversteer. Every person that I've spoken with says they both are easy to get some oversteer. BRZ just needs a little more encouragement to get side ways.

I have no first-hand experience driving either car so had to rely on what I read from Car and Driver.

"Go screaming into a turn or hop on the gas too early exiting one, and the Subaru simply understeers—perhaps for the benefit of drivers familiar with the brand’s all-wheel-drive products. The Scion uses softer springs and stiffer shocks, and it has a sensitivity to driver inputs that makes it feel alive. Too much or too little throttle upsets the Scion’s balance, sending the car into an easily controlled drift."

... and in Motor Trend.

"the initial understeer that transitions gently and predictably to controllable oversteer"

It might be one of those characteristics that only show up when the car is being pushed hard at the track.

I'm pretty sure that the only thing Ken Block's Fiesta shares with a real Fiesta is the outward appearance

@Boom King I did say a couple reviews. What you wrote made it sound like all you get is understeer from the Subiyota and that's it. Obviously you want some understeer else you end up with some tail happy car that's a PITA. Different reviews and different people YMMV.

I agree some initial understeer isn't that bad and it does seem that it's easily correctable. I just remember reading reviews a while ago and noted that understeer was a common theme in more than a couple of reviews. Here's a few others...

Road and Track.

"...and its neutral to slight understeering attitude."

2013 Subaru BRZ Limited vs. Route Napoléon

"It will understeer if thrown too quickly into a turn, but a lift of the throttle tucks the nose back in line."

Autoguide

"Subaru has used softer spring rates and firmer dampers, the result being a car that has a touch of turn-in understeer."

I wasn't surprised at this if Subaru's goal was to tune the suspension to give it a feel similar to their AWD cars which have the slight understeer feel on turn in. It makes sense since the Toyota designers decided at the last minute to change the suspension setup on the FR-S from the initial Subaru design.

Looks fun!

But I probably won't ever buy a new vehicle. Used it the way to go. And when you start looking at used cars, well, the S2000 is better than the BRZ/FRS.

I'd even get a MX-5 before I bought a FR-S/BRZ.

Drop-tops are just that much more fun!

I've owned 5 Miatas and 1 S2000 in my life and would probably agree with you but I have to say, the Subaru/Scion is pretty ****ing sweet. And if you live in a place that gets cold in the winter, it may be a really tough choice. Has anyone here actually driven one yet?

I would never buy a convertible in NE Ohio. Just saying. Not to mention, the car is my place to not have symptoms of riding a motorcycle (like sunburn, sweat, and general wind-deafness) when I don't want to. I don't want a soft-top. Sure they look sexy, but that S2000 would be perfect if it was a coupe instead of a roadster. Prolly be stiffer too...

Yeah, I used to live in South Florida so it was never an issue there. They make removable hardtops for the S2000 but I've always thought that would be a huge pain in the ass when the weather got nice and you needed to store it somewhere.

I'm jealous!! I hope to someday own a S2000 or Miata. And I can see why folks in the north would not be as likely to own a convertible. But here in the south there are plenty of days for topless fun!

I went and looked at the FR-S in person when it first came out. But I haven't driven one. I figured no dealership would let an almost 21 year old take one for a spin. Haha.

But the one I looked at in front of the dealership disgusted me. It was an automatic!! Shame!

One reason why the S2000 will always be better than the BRZ/FRS. It only came with a manual transmission. The only way a sports car should come.

Agreed, putting an automatic in any of those cars is ridiculous, I'll never understand who would want that. Personally, my favorite is the 1st gen Miata (early 90's). They are noticeably lighter and way easy to slide around corners. They don't have as much power as the later ones but it's not like even the new ones are fast, you buy these cars for the handling anyway. If you could find one of those in good shape, that would be a really fun and inexpensive ride. I kinda look at it as the closest car equivalent to the Ninjette.

I used to be really into cars too. I've got a Genesis Coupe 3.8 that only my wife drives now because I prefer the bike. It was a personal choice for me though. I always wanted more power and speed and with a car, that's expensive. Bikes are faster for cheaper. I also feel more engaged on the bike. My car is manual because I love being active in the drive and the bike kinda amplifies that experience imo.....and Please don't buy a rear-wheel drive Subaru. Don't encourage them...

Yup! NA is my favorite as well. Then the NC's. I have never liked the looks of the NB. They just look weird, I think it's the front end. Idk.

With a little love, the NA's can be such an awesome looking car.

Kinda makes me miss mine but in here in Boston a Miata isn't much more practical than the Ninjette. Speaking of which, it's looking like winter storage isn't that far off. Sucks.
