cage hit me

Excuse the short story and possibly bad grammar. On my phone. Just want to quickly ask if i will have any trouble getting bike fixed. I was in the right turn lane when a truck crossed the white line because he missed his turn. I slammed on my brakes but hit him on the rear quarter panel with side of my bike. Im worried that because i hit him further back on the side he could possibly turn it around on me. The witness that saw drove off.

Sounds like you're okay.

Ooo...tough one but yeah he could say you ran into him. This why when I used to ride the streets I'd video record all my rides.

What's the damage to your bike?

Always, always call the police and have a report completed.

That one will be the only legal document in any future dispute.
Whatever the cager said is not recorded anywhere and may be changed or distorted later.

Insurance companies are two-in-one: one sells you the police (money-in company), the other tries to skim your benefits (money-out company).

You can only deal uniquely with the second part after an accident.

Glad that you are OK.

So, you hit the cage and not the other way around (although it was the cager's fault). It's good you're ok.

Yes always get an police report / witness info. When you call the insurance company they'll get a statement from both of you. IF he decided to say that it wasn't his fault, then it's just his word against yours.

My sister just got rear ended last week, and she didn't call the police. Luckily the guy was honest and paid for all the repairs, but the mechanic who did the repairs said next time, get a report/witness just in case.

Thanks for the tips guys. definitely a learning experience. never been in a wreck or anything like that. Can illegal immigrants get insurance? not trying to sound racist but he was on his way to send money to mexico and kinda hinted at not wanting police involvement. He had insurance and all that and all state confirmed his coverage was current so just wondering if maybe that could have been a reason he didnt want to involve police. also being in texas its fairly common thing to see. was a nice guy though. or at least acted nice considering he just caused an accident.helped me put my blinker back on and at least acted like he cared about my well being. we will see if hes a genuine guy after he gives his claim. I have already given a recorded statement and all that.

yes they can.

not racist imo a valid concern. Another reason he may just let it run its course.

You need a new agent. ALWAYS get a police report, and never put your faith in the cager admitting fault. They always seem to forget that they did down the road when it comes time to get paid.

I'm glad you weren't hurt badly and hope everything works out OK for you.
Some years ago when my wife was driving, she pulled behind a truck stopped at a stopsign. Then the guy suddenly backs up into her car, denting her hood. We called the police to report the accident and to provide documentation that it was all the truck driver's fault. Fortunately he was an honest person as he could have claimed my wife ran into him while he was stopped. Now with cellphone video cameras you can do a lot to help your claims in an accident or get possible witness license plates.

I'm glad you're ok. Just let him know of the damages and cost as soon as possible, don't drag it out. The longer you wait the more possibility of them not paying up.

If he is an undocumented immigrant then there are high chances that he will pay up, he wouldn't want any problems that could possibly involve him with police which could ultimately get him (and his family) deported. A documented person has higher chances of not paying for their mistakes since their consequence is not at severe.

But next time, as others have said it, call the police.

Someone came out and looked at my bike to asses damages and quoted about $420 dollars in repairs. have not got word on if he has admitted fault yet. i have given my statement to the person representing the other driver and to the person representing me. just gotta wait to see what they come up with now.

Similar to my situation, I was in my immediate lane, then a sedan came into my lane. I hit the rear quarter panel and the other party's insurance admitted liability. I'm awaiting payment to the repair shop at this time so I can retrieve my bike. (thank God it wasn't my Ninja) I hope everything works out for you man.

The damage is definitely minimal. just need a left side fairing and front fairing/cowling whatever you want to call it.

That is a tough one. The same thing happened to me!
Except a car turned right as I was passing on the right. At the time I had no insurance, it was all bad. I ended up paying money to his insurance and fixing my damage on my own.
Just taking about it boils my blood, but its good for everyone to learn from. I'll post a full blog on it later.

Glsd your alright, and I can relate to not getting license plates in the heat of the moment.
