Moto GP presents...Almost to Crystal Lake....

Moto GP Kevin, Super Bike Jeremy and myself decided to take a jaunt through GMR to Crystal Lake....

The three of us hit GMR this morning around 8:40 am.... Both Kevin and Jeremy did very well on all the technical turns (I was impressed since it was their first time there)...we all came down into Azusa Hwy 39...lots of straight aways with some sweepers....made our way toward Crystal Lake with Kevin leading- Jeremy following and me bringing up the rear.... (I had lead all the way until now....wanted to get footage of these two ripping it up). They were doing great for some time (10-15 min)...really getting into the turns- good speed......and what lay ahead.....a nice sweeper going right with A TON of debris...I mean dirt that you could see at least 300 yeards away....when I saw it I thought to myself....gentlemen please go around it!!!! These two Super bike psychos go into the mouth of the devil....I slow down and and I've already made up my mind that I have to go around it....there goes Jeremy low siding and just around the bend is Kevin picking himself up. Kevin had this HUGE grin on his face....he looked like he enjoyed himself...he was like ATGATT!! His frame sliders and Jeremy's frame sliders worked!!!!!!! Minimal damage to the bike.

Jeremy on the hand- the way he went down...I believe popped his collar bone out of place. We decided not to pop it back in in fear of more pain and he was in pain!!! We didn't noticed his collar bone sticking out till we saw a huge bump under his shirt....I was like daaaaammmm. There was no cell service- we were 10 min from Crystal Lake.....and about 25 min from the freeway... (I think Kevin was reaaallyyy thirsty- and that's why he was racing up the canyon)...We gathered our bearings and got Jeremy's jacket on (dude was in so much pain) and headed out of the canyon together- UNITED- as Ninjetters do (Semper Fi). We ALL got out of the canyon together and back on the freeway. Kevin and I hit a gas station for some drinks (90+ degrees by now). We were going to hit GMR again but Kevin noticed his front brake was acting weird- so we departed. I headed back up GMR!!! I had t get my RIDE on!!

Here's a pic of the dirt before the turn....(I wonder how many mishaps this turn has claimed?)

What was the final diagnosis, had he broken his collarbone? Bikes generally OK? Good on you for picking up the debris early enough to do something about it, and it's too bad the others didn't react as soon as you were able to.

Kevin is fine...he walked away with a huge smile on his face. Jeremy...waiting to hear back from him. He posted that he's going to the doctor's. I'm working on posting some pics and vid. The bikes are generally ok...frame sliders did their job. A few scratches to be expected....both bikes lost their right front turn signals....a small piece of their rear brake peg.....

Anyone going into that turn at a speed as low as 10 mph was going to go down....what got these two was that they were having so much fun on the Ninjette and the sweepers and the day was gorgeous along with the temperature and BAM....just like that the twisties remind us there is danger around every freakin' corner...they weren't riding reckless or stupid....just the failure to recognize a horrific turn with debris got the best of them....if you look closely that dirt is strewn across the entire right side of the road. When I saw it I said I'm going to have to go into the other lane...there was no question about it! Glad they are ok.....ATGATT

I have the video of the low side but will not post it on Ninjette unless Jeremy gives me the okay...

He was fine to ride....after the low side...we followed him for about 10 minutes out of the canyon to see if his shoulder was able to take the pressure....and he was fine...he gave us the thumbs up.....we then escorted him all the way down for about 15-20 minutes right back onto the freeway....he then passed us on his way home...30 minute ride or so....he posted awhile ago that he made it home safely and that he was going to the dr.

Didn't look like excessive speed or unnecessary risks to me, but

What it looked like is hitting the front brake in a turn with debris on the ground. It's not a great idea with plenty of traction, but if you nail it with little traction, the bike will hit the ground pretty smartly as the front washes out. Brake as much as you can before the debris field, then carefully manage your traction as best you can once in it.

didn't see the brake light come on the first time i watched, thought he just lossed his front but Alex is right... you can see the brake light flicker on when the front goes. too bad. looked like fun before then though

Damn, that really sucks. It certainly looked like you all were riding reasonably for the conditions. Too bad the guys didn't see the dirt and gravel all over the road. I've hit that stuff after seeing it, slowing down, and standing the bike up, and the bike still slides on it. Slippery stuff.

Glad to hear that everyone is definitely in pretty good condition.

I loved the ride and I can't wait to go back... with a vengeance and a broom!

Nothing broken, nothing fractured, just a severely sprained shoulder. Wish the doc gave the xrays to me to post. No road rash or other injuries, textile jacket did its job , and kevlar pants worked well too Gloves did great, not a scratch on my boots. Helmet got a few tiny scratches. Oh yeah, and my underwear are still clean!
Bike is fine. a little scratched but fine. Shoguns did their job.

I even went to bike night after doctor visit... but in my cage

Maybe Dr. Cindy will come nurse me back to health
I'll just pretend I am a mutant plant with too much aluminum.

Kevin and Adrian are both great guys to ride with. Thank you for being our guide Adrian, we will again ride. Looking forward to many more rides with the both of you.

Yep, was breaking before I got in it and started to slip and grab some break when I was in it seeing Kevin go down. Damn panic response.
