We've got full coverage on our ninja, and we're only paying ~$130/year. State Farm, rural PA, and we're both 28 with no reportable accidents and one speeding infraction from 4 years ago. I'm fairly positive our deductible is $500. I was told no discounts for MSF or the fact that we've also got 2 cars and our renters ins through them. No discounts because they are already the lowest, she said.

Been riding for 4 full years now. If the ground ain't freezin', bet yer sweet a$$ I'm out ridin'. Or something to that effect...

P.S. Insurance in NJ is very high. I used to live there. Care to hazard a guess why I don't live there anymore

$0.00, mine is a race bike. The only time it was ever on the street was 300 miles of break-in when I first bought it.

It would be nice to know how the rates correlate with states that require insurance and those that don't.

Every single bike I've owned (crusiers: '98 1500, '04 800, '97 750, '02 1100 streetbikes: '99 600, '96 650R, '04 600, '99 1000(touring), and now '06 250) my insurance has ALWAYS been about $30 a month +-$3. Even on my 06 Rhino 660 its $30 a month. Its 100/300/50 insurance through progressive. Highly recommend them, especially if you have a progressive representative near you. I'm 23 and dont have anything on my record.

I pay almost $34/month and about $425/year. I am 18 in NoVa with a clean record and great grades. I feel like for my coverage and age the cost is appropriate, much less than the $1800/year that geico quoted me for even less coverage, or the $700+/year from others .

I just received an e-mail from progressive telling me I am now a silver-level loyalty rewards member. I now have unlimited small accident forgiveness (won't affect my rate at all) and a responsible driving discount (I already had this).

Coverage & Premium Information

BODILY INJURY & PROPERTY DAMAGE LIABILITY $114.00
BI $50,000 EACH PERSON - $100,000 EACH ACCIDENT
PROPERTY DAMAGE LIABILITY - $40,000 EACH ACCIDENT

UNINSURED MOTORISTS $81.00
BI $25,000 EACH PERSON/$50,000 EACH ACCIDENT
PROPERTY DAMAGE $20,000 EACH ACCIDENT

OTHER THAN COLLISION $100 DEDUCTIBLE $45.00
INCLUDES DISAPPEARING DEDUCTIBLE

COLLISION $250 DEDUCTIBLE $175.00
INCLUDES DISAPPEARING DEDUCTIBLE

TOWING & LABOR COSTS $75 PER DISABLEMENT $10.00

Premium by Vehicle $425.00
Total Policy Premium $425.00

A lot depends on your location.
I think that they also took into account that I have been riding for 40+ years.

I pay 138 a month for insurance for full coverage on a 2011 Subaru Legacy, no comp/collision on the 1997 Eagle Talon TSi, the 250r and renters insurance.

For specifics however, i pay 5 bucks a month for full coverage on the 250r. This is all through state farm.

Progressive was the cheapest for me too, but I'm only paying $160 a year. Or was that a typo and you meant to say "year" and not "month"? Have you had a bunch of wrecks and DUI convictions? Or is your only crime that you are 19?

I suggest you look at the breakdown of your policy and find out the specific coverage that is costing so much and see if you can eliminate or modify it. I dumped collision on mine for that reason. Basically, about 60% of all motorcycle accidents are caused by cagers who are required to carry liability insurance. As long as they don't run off, I can get their insurance to fix my bike.

I got an estimate at geico, and they were almost the worst at almost $1200 year. The part that drove up their policy was uninsured motorist protection and collision was reasonable. So each company is different.

Also, and I don't know if this is true or not, but some insurance companies go by the bike's cc's when figuring the rate. Make sure you put the TRUE Ninja cc's which is 249cc NOT 250cc. They may have some kind of chart:

0-249cc = good rate
250 - 499 = bad rate
500 up = really bad rate

I hear they also go by credit rating too, but I'm not sure to what extent.

I pay ~$600/yr with Progressive here in TX.

Factors that keep my premium low include my good credit, no tickets/wrecks on my record, the MSF course, and the fact that it's a 250cc bike. On the other hand my total lack of experience on a motorcycle and my age, early 20's, have meant higher premiums I'm sure.

It also doesn't help that I'm super paranoid about other drivers not having insurance or having enough insurance and I keep my UMBI limits really high to match my high BI/PD limits. I'm always worried about that 1 in 100 crash where you end up needing expensive surgeries, long-term therapy, etc.

Maybe it doesn't help that I also work for another insurance company (one that doesn't insure bikes sadly) when it comes to being paranoid about my coverage limits

Insurance

I'm in the process of looking for a ninja, but I'm more worried about insurance than I am about getting a great deal on the bike. I've read a few threads about insurance on bikes but what would you think insurance for a new ninja rider would be? I've only had my license for about a year, so that would make the price go up, right? Sorry I'm so much of a newbie I'm learning slowly but surely though, thanks to the awesome people on the forums

Insurance companies tend to screw unmarried males under 25. Its like a rule for them. When I turned 25, my auto rates dropped like a rock. Married guys, if they are lucky enough to get to keep the bike in lieu of the minivan, tend to drive slow and careful so the kids don't fall off the back so their rates are low too.

In any case, keep shopping around because not every company has the same rates. Also, look to see what you can drop so you don't have full coverage.

Is insurance required where you live? Its not required in FL which may have something to do with the rates.

the only reason i got that insurance was because my parents paid for it. i was originally going to buy an R6 and basic insurance because ive grown up with motorcycles and already had experience, but my parents told me that if i got the 250 then they would cover all of my insurance for me (full coverage). couldn't pass that up...

Oddly enough, I just got my annual renewal bill from Progressive. For the first three years, I'd been paying about $350-375/year for:
-Liability: Bodily $50,000/person, $100,000/accident
-Liability: Property $40,000/accident
-Uninsured Motorists: Bodily $50,000/person, $100,000/accident
-Uninsured Motorists: Property $40,000/accident
-$250 deductibles for Collision & other than collision (comprehensive)
And of course, the free coverage for up to $3000 of aftermarket hardware.

I still have one ticket on my record (I get one about every three years, which is how long they take to disappear) so that hasn't really changed. I haven't made any claims beyond the one right after I got the bike in '08. I'm now 27 years old.

This year, it's dropped to $114/year. Same coverage. I bumped the deductibles to $100 each and it only went to $140/year. Wondering what happened, if I'm missing some form of coverage, etc. Or is it just me getting old?

You're getting old I think the bracket for riskiest drivers are males under 25. I think the bigger factor is how long your driving record is though.

Married, 27 years old, 2012 250, 1 ticket on record. Progressive full coverage with new model year replacement for 4 years and 250 deductable is $245/year through local dealership. Liability quote was less than $7/month. State Farm was $86/month full coverage on my 05 GSXR 600 back in 06 when I was 22, single, and had around 3 tickets on record.

what do you pay for insurance

Just curious what you guys pay in insurance for your ninja. I called my insurance guy and I thought it might have been a little bit lower than he quoted. I don't remember what it was its written on a pice of paper in my office but it was high $3XX something a year.

But with the MSF BRC course and my license not my permit I got quoted $360 a year... so idk that doesnt seem that high to me. That was full coverage though...
