Long distance ride

Just wanted to know if its safe to take this bike cross-country. i would be doing A LOT of highway riding at 100+km/h. Is this alright for the engine? i dont want any overheating or anything like that.

I think it is safe to say that the 250 is a good bike and built like a tank.

100kmh? No problem. I was on my little 250 trying to follow a CBR600, ZX10 and CBR1000 to a track day and I had it pinned to 160kmh (100mph) for a solid 35 minutes (or so) with no overheating issues.

No problemo to take this bike as far as you want, as long as you want.

One of those threads has a link to a guy who took his 2008 ninjette completely across the country.

The Ninja is more than capable for a cross continent run. I did it on a 1956 NSU 250 with 15HP in 1974. If you really want to enjoy the trip, look up Adventure Cycling Association on the net and get some bicycle maps from them (not very expensive) I have found that roads that are good for bicycles are GREAT for motorcycles. I use their maps for all my trips. The MC Touring Guru, Peter Egan uses bicycle maps as well.

You better do a search. There have been many riders who have attempted this. We haven't heard from any of them again. Well you might be the first to actually return from a long distance trip. That would be a first and you'd make history. I say go for it!

If you use the choke, it will start hard. If you simply turn the key and press the button, the bike should come to life. Don`t apply any throttle.

Oscar, must be that I did it on an NSU--Syracuse NY to Seattle and back. Maybe if I did it on a Ninja, I would become an MIA.

I don't know if its normal, but my bike does the same thing. Sometime it takes two or three tries to get her going. It does not do it all the time, but most of the time in the summer its like that.

My father rode from Vancouver to Halifax in the early 70s on a Yamaha 175. Traffic is a lot worse these days I imagine, but if you plan your route well you can avoid a lot of that.

When I was a kid I rode from Boston to St. Louis, by way of the Indy 500, every year from 72 to 78 on an FLH (by myself, except for 76). Then again in 82 on a Suzuki Katana 1000. I never had a problem.

I routinely used to take my Ninjette at highway speeds for 200-250 mile/day trips. It eats it and smiles.
