Tornado safety

If you live in an area prone to tornadoes, you've probably heard the same safety tips over and over.
Crouch against a brick wall and cover your head.
Lay in a ditch.
Stay away from windows.
Get in a basement or designated storm cellar.
You know... the usual.

But sometimes, we are so busy following that advice that we miss the obvious! I heard on the radio today that research in AL has shown that most deadly injuries inflicted by tornadoes could have been prevented with a simple helmet. Before I heard that, I never would have thought to grab it when a tornado is bearing down on me because I would have been too busy checking off the list of common-knowledge safety advice. We should all have one around, but consider getting some hard hats or raiding the sports locker in such a situation.

The study was prompted when a boy was sucked out a window and thrown into the ground head-first by a tornado. He was wearing a batting helmet (baseball) and was mostly unharmed.

You should still GTFO if a hurricane is on the way but, if you don't, consider the same advice.

Nope, but the rest of the household still needs something.
