Where can I get a longer throttle cable for dirt bars ?
The title pretty much says it all. Those of you that have been around for a while might remember me for being the guy that tries to make the EX250 something it is not ! My last endeavor was to make a trike with one. It came out quite right btw. It was for my dad that couldn't ride a two wheeler anymore after a stroke at 72 yrs.. The EX250 Ninja was his favorite bike he ever had. Turned out he couldn't ride a trike safely either (trike conversion is up for sale BTW). NOW I am making an EX 250 "Town bike " I'll call it. It will have an upright seating position like a classic 70s bike for travel not much over if even 70 mph. I can't go over 70 mph safely within 20 miles of my house IMO. Anyway, I'm getting rid of the quasi clip on style bar and putting old fashioned bar clamps on the triple tree. This way I can put wider , slightly taller handle bars on the 250. I think I've got the longer clutch cable and front brake cable figured out. But I see no solution so far for the throttle cable not being long enough for the conversion. Any Ideas guys and gals ?

Sorry to read that your father couldn't use the trike
I would try some cables for Kawasaki dirt or dual purpose bikes, example KLR 250 or 650. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List...ki_motorcycles

Try KLX250 throttle cables. They use the same style of throttle housing that the Ninja 250 uses, with that strange bend up by the handlebar housing.

Its been awhile since I've been intimate with under the tank and carbs (4 years). Isn't the pull cable (acceleration) divided into two cables before it reaches the two carburetors ? If it is only two separate cables ( one for acceleration and one for deceleration ) then I could fabricate my own lengthened throttle cable. But if its one of those split "Y" jobbys I,m not so sure. I am waiting for those float bowl gaskets to arrive from ebay before I take it apart and clean my pilot jets and replace my float bowl gaskets from sitting to long. As far as the front brake line go'es I think the 2012 KLX 250 has the Ninja 250 looking square barrel ends more so than those pregnant banjo fittings of the KLR 250. I would use those any that I knew would fit and get the stop juice down to the caliper without leaks.

There are just 2 throttle cables separate and independent of one another, one push one pull. |

Thanks guys. This is one of the better, friendliest forums I have been a member of. You guys always are ready to actually really help a fella sort something out. I missed this forum while I was in my scooter phase. I'm over it, They need to much service per mile imo for all that body work you have to **** with all the time. I loved the torque and the automatic trans. , But to much BS involved.

OK, Now that I know I have no major road blocks for this project thanks to you guys its time to start ordering stuff to put the handlebars on. Then I can go from there and start figuring out the rest without wasting a bunch of money on parts that won't work. PS maybe I'll post some pics as I go. Thanks again and if anybody has any helpful hints please feel free to post them.

I just ordered 4 inch rise handle bars, A KLR 250 triple tree I will use most of and cut off the rest. Some risers in case I want to come back and/or up with the bars, And the cables I will send to Motion Pro or somebody to make longer ones when I get the right measurements for them once I get the bar system fabbed up and mounted. I will have anywhere from $ 260 to $325 into this mod once all said and done. Not to mention some seat work to gain me one more inch or so of leg room PS Already have done the old Buell foot pegs leg room mod I did a couple years ago.

Just waiting for parts . And Taking a video I'll post on utube demonstrating the trike in action. Then will hopefully sell the 250 trike assembly to someone else who may want to install it on their EX250 after I remove it from the bike.
