Laguna seca exhaust?
Want to do a track day at Laguna Seca this year and it has a 90 decibal sound limit. Those with aftermarket exhausts did you have any problems?
I currently have the stock pipe but my right heel hits the front of the can. Was thinking of getting a cheap small slip on (any suggestions that doesnt get in the way) or just getting a full system (jardine gp-1) and jetting the carbs.

Get the full Leo & and Dynojet jet kit and run the Exhuast with the open insert. You'll gain a noticeable about of throttle responce and power and have zero problems with sound. My bike sounds loudish in the pits but it doesn't really get any loader on track so it's deceptivly quite. The full Leo street system comes with two inserts, the first is highly restrictive and may possible make the most power, back pressure is important. The second insert is just strait through but reduces the dia of the exhaust hole, this gets you good sound and good power, I use this one. The third option is no insert, this will make the bike stupid loud and kill a noticeable amount of power so I don't use it, but if annoying the neighbors is your thing then go for it.
There's a video on here somewhere of me at laguna and the beginning of the video has a spec sheet of my whole setup. |

Were there any concerns with the sound check, or you were comfortably under with that setup?

Hmm i looked at the organizers website and it said you go through a testing station and they will also monitor the sound levels on the track. this is with keigwins

Well let me put it to you this way, if you buy the full system and they have an issue with the open insert. Then put in the quite insert and you'll be perfect with no loss of power.

I haven't been there when they had a pre-test available; they usually just monitor from the booth near Turn 5. Bikes that are near the limit need to roll off (or at least not roll on at full revs) when accelerating out of 5. Some R6's with completely stock exhaust can break the limit there, so it's not a terribly high measurement before needing to be worried.

Not to nit pick (how is that spelled?) but don't some bikes make little pops and gurgles when you roll off? Wouldn't that be louder?

Which Leo Vince exhaust are you referring to? When I was looking at exhausts, there were the GP and EVO.

My standard Area P w/ silencer failed. You have better chances passing with stock exhaust. I few of my friends failed with stock exhaust on their 600's. I only go there on my miata.

I've got the full Leo Vince pipe on mine- I run the quieter baffle because I haven't had time to tune it properly for the open baffle.
At Jennings there is a 104 limit and they didn't even raise an eyebrow at me going past at full throttle. |

Laguna's limit is much tighter, at 92 dB. A change of 10 dB doubles (or halves) the perceived loudness, so you can be more than twice as loud at Jennings.

I have the GP Corsa. According to the LV site the DB rating is 98 but I have not tested it myself and the site only has the slip on listed so I am not sure if that is the full system- or which baffle that was. |

You mentioned the Jardine GP-1, but I'm pretty sure it will be way too loud for Laguna Seca, I had it on my 250 for a day and I don't remember the numbers, but I was told it was the loudest bike out there, as in +97db. Jardine makes a quiet insert, but it's not compatible with the 250 pipe. Also, I don't think it offers enough back pressure to improve power without significant mods either.

The quiet insert on my Leo exhaust is pretty simple. If you have some basic metal fabrication skills you could do it. I'll try to remember to take some pictures and measurements

Have you considered repacking the exhaust? The old stuff may be worn out or blown out or burned. It certainly couldn't hurt and may reduce the noise.

Oooh i didnt know they could be repacked, i'll look up how's it done.
i've also seen pictures of guys running an exhaust tip that points away from the sound traps, anyone know how effective those are?
