Need jetting help - 40 Pilot Jet necessary?

Hey everyone,

I'm stuck in limbo right now. I can't decide what instructions to follow and hope to get some wisdom from those who have more experience.

My current setup :

areap 15'' quiet core full system
snorkel removed
kleen air system will be plugged
Factory pro jet kit

With the kit, there was some sample installations. The one thing that struck me was they were using the 90 or 92 main jets along with the 40 pilot jet.

Now when i look at the setups on the jetting database, i see people using bigger jets but no info on what pilot jet used, so i assume stock. Is there some sort of relationship? Is the 40 pilot jet necessary according to your experience? Does using the stock pilot jet mean that i should use higher main jets?

what do you recommend as my initial setup?

when the jetting database was set up, aftermarket kits did not sell the kits with a 40 pilot.. this has been an addition.

I run 38 pilots and bike runs fine.

a 92 main sounds way too lean to me. I'd suggest stock mains (98) clip in 4th position, 38 pilots and mixture at 2.5 turns out as a starting baseline. test to fine tune.

I'll try that to start with and I'll definitely update the database once everything is right. I had emailed a question to factory pro for info about the setup they proposed with the kit and the rep just told me to install as per instructions without answering my question...

I noticed the FP main recommendations were a bit lean, IMHO.

If the bike were being set up as a track bike, that would be about right I guess, depending on the track, but for street riding, I wouldn't go that lean.

Your pilot jet does not affect anything over 3000rpm.
