I seem to remember reading that it’s chromed stainless steel in which case it will not rust.

My muffler (ninja 250), is somewhat scraped up, and YES it rusts (I'm just going to be replacing mine with a Yoshi...)

I'm not sure it'll work, but you could try knocking some of the dents out with a rubber mallet, applying some chrome polish (I wind up using a little toothpaste for small spots) and maybe a high-temp clear coat? A little polish & scrubbin' shouldn't hurt in any case.
If/when it does rust, some steel wool and a little elbow grease should take care of it. Althernately there's a compound out there that chemically seals rust once it's formed and turns it black-ish. Can't think of the name atm, though a google search should find it in short order.

Ive got a stock muffler I could sell ya
You havent mentioned it but I'd hold off replacing it or doing something crazy hard and time consuming to stop it from rusting. Theres always the chance that you could drop it again on the same side (I hope that doesnt happen!). If theres an easy fix, go for it. Dont go too extreme though now as it may happen again. I'd wait a little bit

very true, i just want to make sure it doesnt rust in between now and the next time i drop it(if i do) i guess its a good reason to get an upgraded exhaust but i can deal with the scratches on my bike, idk about the rust though...

You could always just spray it flat black with High Heat Krylon. Simple and cheap, but only if you like the look of course.

wax it. the wax (car wax) will prevent rusting. you might need to touch it up often due to the heat burning off the wax, but at least you'll have a shiny muffler.

spray some rust check, its gooey and semi transparent, just make sure it sits in the scratches.

I think the salt water in the air makes it happen quicker (im no chemist though). Was there anything you could/did do once it rusted?

I dunno if you are interested but I ran a search on ebay.com and found that there are some 2008/09 stock mufflers for the N-250 up for sale. Maybe you can get one that is not damaged for cheap.

My muffler isnt in too bad of a condition, i just want to keep it from getting worse on its own. I don't know much about motorcycle/car maintenance so im not really sure what to do, but i have had some good suggestions, just havent had much time to think about what I should actually do about it,..

main ding is on the heat shield , I can barely see anything wrong with the actual muffler. replace the heat shield cause thats the only thing I see with highly visible damage. Wait I have a shield just collecting dust after I attached my after market slip-on. Shoot me a PM and Ill mail it to you(only cause its a red ninja)
