Garage door opener

I found one thread about this guys who made a kit with the high beam, i was wondering if anyone had other options. I was thinking of getting some kind of plastic to wrap the remote in (not a condom) and mounting the remote somewhere.

Anyone have ideas for a garage door opener, the honking for the girlfriend to open works but shes not always here

I got a small one from walmart, it fits nicely on my tank bag. When I go without my tankbag I just put it in in my pocket, it isn't obtrusive. I also keep ziploc bags on me, just in case i get caught the rain.

I also saw the highbeam mod, but I'm not electrically-inclined, so I didn't try it.

Waterproof momentary switch mounted to fairing. Wire unit up to bike battery with a small fuse (rated for the load to the opener...not much required). Store the unit under the seat and you are set.

Relatively simple install.

Or you could be really easy and just mount the opener under the seat, wire up the switch and just run it off the battery in the unit itself.

Let me know if you need me to clarify...

This, maybe?

http://www.amazon.com/Keychain-Remot.../dp/B0015GDW3U

I'd assume not waterproof, so if it gets wet, time to replace the battery.

I have a seperate keychain for my bike key so that I dont have all my keys bouncing around. I put the key on one of these:

Two birds. One stone.

We've got 4 or 5 of these lying around on all of the motorcycle and random keychains in the house:

They work great.

Honestly, I always just tossed my opener in the chest pocket of my Olympia jacket. The jacket pocket wouldn't get wet while riding and I could easily hit the button, even with winter gloves.

I was wondering the same thing. I'm guessing you have to find one that's on the same frequency as yours and be universal.

What I have done is taken one of the 'keychain openers' that others have posted and hung it on a lanyard I keep tucked inside my riding jacket. When I pull onto my street I stop unzip my jacket half way and open her up. Works great for me.

My husband has the keychain remote fob on his motorcycle key and he uses the really strong Velcro to attach the fob on the tank while the key is in the ignition so it doesn't flap around. I guess it works for him. I never ride without him with me and when we get home I roll in the garage first and so he opens the door for me. I have my personal automatic garage door opener. Lol

Sounds like you have him well trained. Of course I'm my own man and do what ever I want; my wife can't tell me what to do! (er, don't tell her I side that).

You could also take one of those universal keys apart and wire a switch/ button directly to it so you could install it on your bike.

This is a good idea. It seems like the keychain is the way to go. Just need to figure out which is compatible

I wish I knew more about wiring and stuff. It would be nice to make a clean switch on the bike for opening the garage

I assume the button in the remote would be wired like the switch would need to be. You'd merely be replacing one button with another. Maybe I'll try it this weekend.

Just looked up what one I'd need with my opener and of course I need one that's 318 Mhz which will be a $15ish remote. Not a big deal but would be nice if I could get a couple for $6 and mess around with the wiring.

Don't have an extra original one that's broken?

I carry my garage door opener on the reflective vest that I'm required to wear. Both the Icon and Bilt vests have a right breast pocket that's more than big enough for the garage remote. I have it sitting in there and I know by it's orientation which button I need to press so I just reach up, star trek style, and tap it while I'm approaching the house. Very convenient and the vest adds visibility.

No...we live in Army housing and it only came with one opener.
