Seeing everyone elses experience with the 250 it makes me wonder...
Do you guys think the higher altitude I live at could account for my less then satisfactory highway experiences that I've mentioned in my previous post?

I live near the mountains so I'm pretty high up.
Was never really sure on just how much of a difference altitude could cause.

Yes altitude has an effect.
I think this is why there are different, optional, oem main jets?

As far as the ninjette specifics at diff. altitudes, I hope some one else here can chime in for you.

I tend to analyze what you are ACTUALLY using your bike for. In retrospect, having to do a 500 mile one way trip monthly, I am pushing the envelope with a 250 Ninjette. Don`t get me wrong, there is no 250 on this planet that can touch a ninjette regardless of which gen. it is. I have been riding for 50 years. If I had to do it again--given what i expect out of my bike--I would have been better served by a Kawasaki 650R (GREEN,OF COURSE) It may still be in the cards. My dealer would give me what I paid for my Ninjette toward a 650R. The 500 milers are visits to my mother who is 96. The 250 makes the trip fine on secondary roads (which are more scenic and enjoyable--am not in a hurry). Surely a 650 would do it easier--but, you know, there is a certain rush in doing it on a 250. The Ninjette has taught this old man that less is more.

Yeah, my two-fiddy was fine on my cross-country trip until I got in New Mexico (insane winds) and AZ (high elevation). Other than going downhill or when drafting, I couldn't top 55MPH. That was the only day that it felt like I was driving an over-powered scooter. Elevation had a real and drastic effect. that said, local owners probably have them tuned properly from the dealers.

I cruised with some local guys to a track outside of Houston on my little 250. We were cruising for a while, a good 45 minutes at least, and I finally looked down and discovered that we were doing a rather high speed, tach was at about 11,500/12,000rpm in 6th. I started to try to slow the group down and managed to slow them by 5+mph. It handled it no problem. They are bikes, have fun with them. The 250 is the cheapest one out of all of them

In Texas, with all these long and straight highways, I think my next bike will be 3x+ the size of this one and EFI (though I do want to keep this one even with another bike in the garage).

Of course if you are worried about RPM, just change the sprockets.
