Thumbs up Air-powered motorcycle....

Some engineering students in India have built a motorcycle that runs on a tank of compressed air...

Sounds like it would work similar to a steam powered engine

Wasn't there a Stephen King novel that had air powered cars in it?

That is a very neat concept. I wonder what the range is before you have to air up again?

IF I heard correctly, it sounded like the announcer said the bike currently has a top speed of 18 KPH.... I hope I heard incorrectly, and he actually said 80.

18 MPH is about 12 mph. You might as well get a bicycle!

a buddy of mine made a car that runs on compressed air. Well, its a model car. He did it for his student design project while getting his bachelors in ME.

I always like how the reporter said the motorcycle is pollution free.

What do you think the machine that compresses the air into the cylinder runs on... love?

still less pollution than the alternative. gasoline that causes more pollution, which in all stages of becoming gasoline also creates pollution. as opposed to an electric air compressor in which the only pollution created is that from creating the electricity.

i say if they can pull it off, good for them. it's good to see that theyre trying and coming up with ideas.

Well, that and the coal burning / gas turbine plants that generate said electricity.

I guess it all depends on where your power comes from. Where I live, electrical power is predominantly hydroelectric.

like i said, thats going to happen in either case. im not saying that it's pollution free, i'm just saying that it's potentially less pollution.
