Bike No Longer Made That You Would Want

The bike upgrade thread hit me pretty good. Years ago (okay 23 of them) I worked at the shop where my wife got me my 09 Blue 250R. The shop has Kaw, Yam, Hon, KTM, BMW, Duc, Guzzi. Owner said those 250R's are keeping their price, what would you trade it for. My answer was honestly I love the 250R. Could I use some more power? Sure sometimes, but not that often, and I always ride solo. I told him I thought the Monster 696 til I sat on it. The 600 supersports are more than I can really use on the streets (especially tight places like New England), so as I posted before the FZ1 at $7,700 is tempting. Now I think I will start another thread - what bike that isn't made any longer would you like? Man I can rattle off many, some good, some not so good but still worth owning.

I would love to have the original Honda Interceptor 500!!!
A very cool looking bike for its time.

Old Honda CB750 - early Japanese multi cylinder.
2 stroke Kawi 500 and Yam 350/400 from the 70's - hey I'm an old dirt bike guy and still like the smell, even if the frame and brakes were no match for the engines!
First ever Ninja (900).
GPZ 750.
First generation interceptor 750 and 500.
'86 VFR750.
BMW R90/S.
Mid '70s Hon CB400F - man the 4-1 headers seemed so radical at the time.

Someone around here had a pristine one last summer for $1,500. It was the '86 R/W/B with red seat. Should have grabbed it. Some say the best handling interceptor. Friend had one in '87 and sold it cause wasn't as quick as he wanted. Man we were young and stupid, haha!

An old Norton or Triumph would be a nice grab in my opinion. Cafe racer style. Yum yum....

- Kawasaki W650 (Japanese reliability, old Brit looks)
- Kawasaki Eliminator 650 (Harley style, Ninja engine)
- Honda GB500 (same aspects as the W650, but a single instead of a twin)
- Yamaha XS650 twin.

I know a guy with the GB500. If I remember correctly it has twin header pipes coming out of that single cylinder. Cool bike kind of Britain meets Japan.

Greg, are talking about Gordon Razee's shop. Where you from in RI. I lived in East Greenwich for years.

I wish they still had the 2 strokes. I had a few and miss that sweet smell and quick acceleration.

Razees for sure. I am in Hopkinton, RI. The sweet smell of acceleration. I remember in the 70's when some guys were running 2 strokes with the Castrol R bean oil. Sweet smell of acceleration indeed.

Gordon has quite a collection of bikes that he has gathered.

My buddy Eddy is getting the green 250 from Gordon for his son. I talked him into it last year and he waited for the 09 to come in. I should be up there at the end on June and into July.

I've ridden every road in RI. I loved living there, in the summer and fall. Spring was too wet, winter to cold.

Post me up when you are in the area. I think half of my rides are nothing more than riding to the shop to look at bikes and then riding home. Some good back roads in southern and western ri.

Only if we stay in Rhode Island and avoid those crappy roads around Moosup, CT.

Honda Super Hawk
Triumph Bonneville
Yamaha Seca Turbo
Suzuki Katana GS 1100S

I think this bike is all about the headers. The Yam FZ1 headers call out to me on that bike as well.

OK both Suzuki and Yamaha 500 2 strokes were great but the ultimate 2 stroke was............drum roll please!

Very few people can handle the TZ 750. You really need to be a professional, or just crazy (because you will only live for a short time).

My next pick is from the 70s and just beautiful to look at and wonderful to ride.

Norton Commando

Last is the bike I'm looking for right now (if I can find a mint one).

Ducati 916 The sexy thing you ride (with two wheels).

There are many more but this is a short version.

If anyone has the time, go to the Barber Motorcycle Museum at Barber Race Track in Bama. They have all your dreams on display.

Some real good bikes for sure. The Norton Commando is hot and what a great standard the GT650 Honda (hawk) is. The TZ750 that was like Suzukis TM400 motocross bike - powerband that went on and off like a lightswitch and a frame that couldn't handle its power. If you were Kenny Roberts (Yam 750) or Roger DeCoster (Suz 400) you could master it, for most others it was "fast bike for sale due to injury."
