Sat on a Monster

I sat on a Ducati Monster 696 today. I think it is one of the better looking naked bikes and has the Ducati je ne sais quoi. Just sitting on the floor it felt terrible. The pegs are short and the large metal structure behind the pegs is so wide it forces your heels out. I ride with the balls of my feet over the pegs and have size 12 feet so maybe this makes things worse but I could never ride like that. The pigeon toed position makes it really tough to reach the shifter and brake pedal. That along with the short pegs makes me feel I could easily slip off the pegs. Maybe Italians have dainty little ballet feet.

Did you have to lay on top of the gas tank to rach the handle bars as well?

Not as bad as a supersport but more forward than the 250R. The seat also felt like a padded sliding board. The Ninjette's seat does that too but you don't notice it until after a few miles. The Monster's seat jammed me into the tank just sitting still.

I sat on a used 999 at the Ducati dealership after I bought the R6 and nearly fell in love, especially since the seat height was lower. Each to their own I guess, however my body type may fit the Ducati's better since Im a short guy (5'2").

If you like the naked look, I highly recommend trying out a Triumph Street Triple or Street Triple R. (Naked Daytona 675) Very comfortable and light bikes.

If you can find one used a Honda 599 (Hornet) is also a very nice naked sport bike.

Last time I went to the Dr I had them varify my exact height. 5'3.5"
That same visit I also cried when they poked my finger for blood. I was embarassed because I've had thousands of needle sticks and IV's. I can't stand my fingers getting pricked though.

Weird. Everytime I've had blood taken they prick my finger. Seems normal to me. You had never had it before?

Love the look of the monster 696. Sat on it and slid into the tank. Don't know if I could deal with maybe needing to wear a cup everytime I came to a stop. Sweet looking, but that angle of the seat is too much for me.

I have blood taken from my finger occasionally. I cry everytime.

May have the opportunity to ride a 2001 Ducati 996 shortly. Not sure if I want to or not.

Actually, from what I have read, it is mostly aggressive in name only. It's often pushed as a beginner's bike. It's power is on par with the 650R. I also sat on the 2009 650R and pretty much liked it. The seat may be soft and the bars a bit high and close but that can be remedied.
