Southern California Owners Thread

One of the things I really liked about my car forum is that we have a spot specific to our locations. I want to start a thread where all Socal riders can chat, talk about local events, deals, post questions, help each other out, etc.

So to begin with, let me give a quick intro.

Location: Southbay - Torrance area
Bike: '09 250r Special Edition

To get this thing going, I'll post a question to the local folks:
1) Any local place I can buy a Pit Bull stand at?
2) Which dealers do you guys trust to get service done, or a good place to buy decent priced Kawasaki service items?
3) Any local place I can buy Shogun sliders from?

Hi Betlog -

On this site we put any local meets, rides, etc. up in the Group Rides and Local Events subforum. There are a couple SoCal threads going in that section, but there's no reason you can't start a new one there if you choose.

/thread moved to that subforum...

Great idea! Unfortunately I cannot really help with any of your questions listed because I myself am still looking for a solid and trustworthy shop. Advanced Kawasaki used to be the only kawi stealership I knew in the area but I rode past by the shop a couple days ago and saw that it was closed down!

Lets get a meet going soon next year! (Deadline: end of January)

Thanks. There are several Kawasaki dealerships near me but have no real experience with service. I got my bike at Mid-cities over by Paramount and the sales went through real well.

My baby is back together until round two so I'm in.
I'm in the Riverslime area.

How about a catchy name for the Socal owners thread? (these sometimes end up turning into "club" or group type names as I've seen on other forums)

Try here for your Shogun sliders! I had them in two days shipping on Christmas week. (no affiliation)

You have your bike checked for crank case holes yet?

I'll be doing all my own service besides balancing my wheels.

Crank case holes? I'm not too mechanically inclined but would like to learn. In fact, I plan on doing my own oil changes as well. That is why I am looking for a local place to pick up a Pit Bull stand at. I want to do this soon....

that's funny.. i'm from the southbay torrance area myself and have a black '09. anyways, the only dealer around our area is del amo motorsports.. which is on marine ave and inglewood ave, near the 405. other than that, there's one in long beach.. etc. there's not much place to "ride" around this area besides PCH... i suppose.

I got my pit bull stands from Bert's in Covina. As well as my shogun spools. They open everyday.

Yeah, PCH is pretty much it. There are a few motorcycle dealerships at PCH as well... and we are pretty close to Cyclegear which is nice.

So when are we going to get a little group 250 ride going in this freezing cold weather?

The mountains/twisties I ride lately have been cooooold!

Looks like rain again Wednesday! We should make it for a weekend so more people can go!

Any ideas for dates? How about Saturday, January 10th, Weather permitting?
Now we need a place.

another thing is too continue the mid week, every month or so, dinner meet up that Kjohnson you and I did for a few months before I left. We would meet up at some eatin place around the area. Ken would always post it up a few days prior.

That sounds good. I'm a n00b though and still going through break-in so I might skip the first couple of months.

It looks like if you go all the way up the 39 from Cypress You'd be at the twisties.
I don't know how much snow is up there right now though, It's been raining on and off.

I'm down to ride that far. I like that area..
The Glendora Ridge Road starts down near there and goes my way or I think the 39 goes back into the San Gabriel River? Lots of good riding back there!

On the way out I'll go back up Glendora Ridge Road toward the IE. lol
Might be snowy and very cold up there though. Not sure at all!

don't go to del amo motorsports, they are shady, at least according to other people. Berts is overpriced. I go to school in Torrance, there aren't really any good shops near by. Check out cyclemall in Tustin, Wynn motorsports, and metric method. All of them are in the OC though.

There's a place in San Dimas called Parts 411---they seem pretty cool as far as price matching and being honest about what your bike needs. They also have a websiteI think it's called parts411.com or something like that. I go to Bert's just to check out what I want in person--then I usually find it somewhere else cheaper.

I'm down for a Jan 10th ride....I live 10 minutes from the bottom of GMR....

I was up there to day as a matter of fact---no snow but it's cold.

The 10th and GMR it is!
We need a time and a meeting place!
I was up there today, great place to ride! Bikes parked everywhere! I got spanked hard by a gsxr despite my hard efforts to keep up. Saturdays will be good.
No snow anywhere.. in fact, less so than last time I went. So far we are clear as long as no rain/snow between now and then.

Lets make a new thread! I would have made one myself, but I do not know the exact address. Should we meet at a gas station near by? And I cannot do Sundays, how about Saturday the 9th?

Ok I'm open for both the next Saturdays.
the 9th or the 16th.. You guys chose the final dates.

11am sound OK? Gives everyone couple hours to wake up, warm up and head out to the bottom of the road?

Now we need a meeting place and I think we are good!
I'll get out Google Earth and look for a nearby Von's parking lot we can meet in or something near the bottom of the hill.

Hey fellas
I don't think I've said hi on here and introduced myself. I live in LA and love to ride Malibu or ACH but never been up GMR yet. I'll keep my eyes posted for more group rides whenever they come up. I was actually thinking of going to Newk's this Saturday if the weather is nice and if anyone is interested.

My buddy who lives in Pasadena said there's been snow up there tho
So I don't know if that's a great idea now. I may high tail it to Malibu.
BTW, does anyone know of a trustworthy and fair mechanic here in LA. Preferably the Hollywood area, I need to get a full service on my baby, it's about that time

Anyone here have experience with tire mounting via Cycle Gear? Are they careful with the rims or do they scratch them up?

Hey man, I found one!!! Actually my buddy fond one and told me about it but they seem pretty legit and I will let you know how the service goes. I'm going to bring it in to this place on Wednesday and pick it up Thursday if that appointment works for them.

It's in Santa Monica though so I don't know if that's too far for you. Anyway, I'll let you know how it goes.

Even though I'm only a block away, I've hesitated going to Mira Mesa bike night in San Diego because I haven't seen any other 250 riders. The few Thursday nights I have happened to ride my bike to the store there I seem to get a lot of stares when I drive right past them and park on the other side of the lot to go in the store instead. Does anyone here go there?
