Valve adjustment Issue

So tried adjusting the valves on my new-to-me '94 with 8k miles.
Problem: even backing adjusters all the way out I can't get the feeler gauge between cam and rocker.
Is there something I'm doing wrong or is this as bad as I'm afraid of (valves beat into seats)?

http://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/What_is...t_procedure%3F <-- Did you do everything by the book? Your positive your cam lobe is in the right position? Correct feeler gauge sizes?

Sorry if those questions were stupid... just making the obvious is out of the equation.

I'll take stupid question, at this point I'm hoping its something simple I missed. Been reading more and I'm afraid valves have been driven into seat.

Yes, followed direction, I'd done valves on a few other bikes so familiar with basic idea. Yes cam lobe position pointing so rocket is at loosest position. The rockers will move when I loosen them up so they are not always under pressure. Yes used correct gauge.

Mmmhm. Well my Ninja was the first vehicle I did a valve adjustment on, so I will not be much help. But I am sure other Ninjette members will pitch in their thoughts. Sorry I can't offer any more ideas.

It's far more likely you messed up. If the bike runs normally, you probably don't have any major issues. If you loosened the lock nut and unscrewed the screw all the way, you would have enough clearance that the rocker would slide right out (it's not attached to anything.) if it moves when you touch it, you're not sticking the gauge in right.

Make sure you're using the right feelers, the specs are in millimeters, not inches.

Yes, on very high mileage motors and some first generation motors.
