I love my tC. I am shorter than you, and I have limited edition so the interior is slightly different. Its bigger than my Celica was. Cars are like bikes you have to find what fits you.

Mountain bike, bro! Road bikes have that relief cam or else the pads wouldn't clear the tire. I'm not sure if Jono's bike is rocking cantilever brakes or disks, but if you're using a normal skewer with mechanical disks, sometimes the calipers can be really finicky when the wheel is removed/reinstalled frequently.

I dunno where your seat was set, but I've never had a front seat passenger hit their head until they're beyond the 90th percentile male in height, in which case, they're doomed to a life of full size sedans and/or trucks. Basically, the passenger seat isn't made for basketball players/hefty folks. The back seat sucks for anything over an hour, but is manageable considering this is a small car with 2 doors that we're talking about.

That said, pretty sure based on our previous conversations on the subject, alex.s has zero interest in a tC. Just not his style from what I gather.

PS: the OG tC (2005-2010) is definitely not a Corolla. The later generations share a platform with the Corolla, but the original car did not.

starting to think i should just finance a new car. every car i find has some deep rooted issue that someone has tried very hard to cover up... would appreciate the warranty and peace of mind of a new car.

Patience. Look and keep looking. If possible, go buy from a dealership. I found my 07 Titan with only 32K miles on it after looking for weeks. It had literally been a trade in 3 days before. The price was so good I bought it right then and there. The dealership hadn't been through it yet so I couldn't take it for another week but it was worth it. Full fluid change, new brakes, etc.

Have your money in hand so when the right one comes along you can pounce!

I guess he could put a hitch and to a trailer.

But he did say around $14,000 which will only get you 1/2 a Goldwing.

CarMax near me has new Scion iA's for $14,745 with manual transmission. And 0% financing right now. Automatic trans are $15,820.

That's making me think about getting another Scion.

After years of dealing with used cars breaking down, my last two cars have been brand new. It's really nice not having to deal with any car problems for years. The Volt was a demo, so it had a couple thousand miles on it, but it was deeply discounted and still counted as new in every way. Personally, I find the premiums I paid for brand new cars to be worth it. I'm sure there's a middle ground between beaters and brand new, it's just a matter of making sure your deal isn't due to someone else's problems.

And as long as you're not buying more than you can actually afford, 0% interest is free money.

I did this very thing a week ago. Fresh state safety inspection - and the right headlight was out on the way home (stopped to eat, got dark, discovered). They serviced the transmission - and it's been leaking all over my driveway while I wait for parts/fluid.

Dealerships can and will do as poor a job, if not worse, than private owners. There's no guaranteed path to victory here, imo.

Try Carmax or Costco auto, maybe? I liked my experience with Carmax and got my car from there. No haggling or dealer bullshit either.

I actually had a shim to shove between the pads but even so when I put the wheel back on in would drag just slightly and loud enough to drive me insane.

I never saw reason to have car payments.

All my cars are owned free & clear, most cost less than my bicycle, since I try to spend as little time in cars (traffic) as I can... since traffic is where you spend most of your time in it anyway.

That's great, every bit helps how you manage your financials. Sometimes its good just to pay things off and a lot easier. I don't need a credit card but I got one for the perks, don't have bad credit and am at that line where interest rates probably can't get better. However, I got a long life ahead still so gotta keep on managing. Plus another benefit on loans is it allows you to keep what you currently have in pocket and grow as you go, you never know if your going to need your savings so expect the worst and hope for the best.

Every person's situation is different so this may only be the way we look at it. You may have a nice cushion and have a good financial back bone. Some do, some don't, some work hard to be able to hold on to what they got and others push for greed.
