My new Ducati 959

Hey everyone,

So after 5 years of riding my 09 ninja I finally decided it was time to get a new bike. After trying out some sport bikes I decided I wanted something middleweight. I think a full bore S1000RR or 1299 would have been wasted on me but the 600cc bikes just didn't feel quite sorted enough for something I wanted to track.

In the end it was between the Ducati 959 and Triumph 675R. Loved the 675R but the Ducati seemed like a much better value and the attention to detail on the Panigale just made it feel very special. The Daytona did feel a little bit quicker to lean over but I think this was probably due to the more aggressive profile on the stock tires. However, cornering stability felt better on the Ducati. Long story short, I ended up selling my Ninja last Friday after being up 2 days on craigslist (I love the the resale value on these bikes). The next day I picked up my new baby!

Desperately trying to keep the RPMs low for the break it in (300 more miles). If there is one think I prefer the most over my Ninja it is the brakes. I never realized just how weak the stock brakes on the Ninja are. I will definitely miss the simplicity of maintaining the 250 though.

I came in here wanting different information but nice pick up! Im really up in the air on what im doing next Ducati-wise. I don't know whether to trade the 848 for the 899 or the new 959, I guess time will tell.

I have sat on one. They aren't that comfortable for me.

However, I admire them as works of art. They are beautiful machines and I really like sport V-twins. Enjoy it!

Man, I love the look of the 848. I would hold on to that gem. If It was between an 899 and 959 I think the 959 is the better option, unless you get a crazy deal on the 899. I tested out a used 899 and the slipper clutch, footpegs and smoother power of the 959 just made it feel like a better prospect to me.

Try them both! They really are both great bikes. In the end its just whichever one suits you better.

Yea... Definitly not a confortale bike to sit on. However, once it gets moving all the ergos make a lot of sense to me. I actually find it more comfortable than my Ninja during spirited rides. Maybe a little more comfortable than the 675R as well. The shape of the tank and fairings do a great job of holding on to your legs while tucked and leaned over. A lot of people do complain about heat though. It has yet to bother me much.

Amazing! I want one!

My neighbor recently picked up a slightly used 2013 Ducati 1199 Panigale R. I could look at it all day. And it sounds mean with Termi pipes. I will eventually convince him to let me ride it once the newness wears off for him.

I think I'd be happy with a 959 but I still want a Daytona 675R first.

I demoed the bike in 100 or near 100 heat and it is noticeable. Felt like I was getting blasted by an oven.

Fantastic bike though. Kickstand is hard to find. Presumably to avoid limiting the lean angle? Monster 821 was pretty good too. Upright riding position is probably more liveable day to day. Both sounded awesome and loud.
