Removing the fork tube guards?

I have a leaky fork seal, and before I decide to rebuild it, I want to try and clean it first. I can't really get the little tool in there with that guard in place. I'm talking about the one that sits below the dust seal and juts out up in front of the fork. Makes it really hard to get in and clean the seal. Anyone know how it comes off? Assuming it slides down?
