Miata Fans?

What do y'all think of the ND Miata MX-5? I know, I know, we don't have any specs yet but just on the looks, I am a fan!

They are doing everything they can to cut weight on this car. They even went back to four lug wheels. Can't wait to see the official numbers to see if this thing weighs less than the NB Miata.

Oh, and yes, I have always loved Miata's. Mazda knows how to build that car to a T.

Miata fans anagrams to "Fast Mania" which seems pretty accurate

( also many graphics packages do image resizing so we won't need our passports to see the right hand side of the photos)

I'm sure it will be an amazing driver..

..but it still looks girly! Too many rear docile curves.

It needs either wider tires or bigger rims or BOTH!

I personally love it.

I think the rear is more F-type than Z4.

Toyota already did a little sports car (albeit not 2-sweater but the rear seats are so small it might as well be) and it's called the FRS.

At least 200hp and permanent roof (rumored for next year) please.

People consider the FR-S a sports car?

Yeah, but Toyota sucks at engines, so they had to get with Subaru to find a great power plant.

1) you just described the FRS. 200hp and a permanent hard top, with an engine that takes really well to modding
2) can't tell if you're being facetious or not. If not, where have you been for the last 3 years?

Well the miata is lighter so 200hp would give it a better HP/weight since the current one is what, 170hp?

I've been waiting for the turboed version. I was disappointed when they announced the hp/weight. Wasn't the rumored weight lower? It does handle nicely. I give it that.

Thought sports cars were 2 seaters: vette, s2k, 370Z, mr2, rx7, supra, boxster/cayman, solstice, Elise/exige, etc. Guess I'm used to the traditional definition.

love it, always loved miatas and I do like the way the new one looks. That said my favorite miata is still the '94-'98 gen1 miata w/the 1.8L engine (as opposed to the original 1.6L engine) this is up there

Agreed. When I sat in one of these cars, it felt like I was driving around in my MK2 MR2 again. I had forgotten how much I miss that low to the ground feeling. It was as Rossi calls it, a great emotion.

I thought Mustangs were sports cars too.

I never knew seats defined the performance of a car.

The good muscle cars from the 60's were mostly 4-seaters. That would be more "traditional" than an S2K, MR2, etc....

But if you are talking about all out performance, then you'd only like 1-seater cars.

Depends on what you consider sport.

Straight or curves, each have their own idea of fun.

To some, sports cars must cost over $60K. I've met a few that seriously looked down on you for driving something cheaper than 60K, as it isn't "sporty" enough for them. Gotta love those guys...

I'm digging the new miata. Very modern styling. Still maintaining the small chassis. Those are 16 inch wheels on that car. Nice.

Not a big fan of the front end treatment, the rest I kinda like. Honestly doesn't matter, if it drives like a proper Miata it will be a great little car ..... just like its predecessors. I still prefer my Breeze

The lovely thing about Miata's...they force you to actually DRIVE.

You don't have the power, so you need perfect lines and maximum momentum to keep your speed.

Of course, full suspension doesn't hurt either.

I suspect the ND will grow on me over time, but my first impression is Z3 copy.

My lineup includes 04 250, 90 Miata, and 04 Dodge truck.

I decided to read up a bit on the new model, seems that they've cut some serious weight from it. 220lbs lighter than the 2015 is huge especially when you consider that it's already a relatively light car to begin with.

If they jam the 129HP engine in there, meh. If they jam 150-160 hp engine in there, that's gonna be a hoot.

Last time they redesigned the car and the weight went up, they only added enough hp to keep the power:weight the same. Hopefully they stick the same engine in to really take advantage of that weight loss instead of delivering the same straight line performance.

Forget the power to weight ratio mazda, we'd all love a Miata that was a tenth or four faster to 60!

I had a 1999 NB. It was the most fun car I ever owned. My wife owned 2 Porsches a 944 and a Boxster and the Miata was more fun. I was sad when I lost it in a wild fire in Texas. I like the new Miata.

@choneofakind Screw the FR-S. It's got like 500 pounds on the this car. I'd totally get the ND. Topless is fun! Plus the Miata is the most raced car in the world.

I'd go for this BRZ though!

See here's the problem with convertible cars in Ohio:

I live in the snow belt... And it spends 5 months of the year below 40, most of that snowing and under 20. Convertibles just aren't practical

Partially because Mazda has a huge program form racers. They give discounts if you are a member of a racing organization.

One of the facilities in my region is down outside of Houston and there is a Miata performance shop, and an individual's miata race prep shop I go by every time I am out there. It definitely brings an itch to the surface lol.
