Dropped a bike at work :(

I was taking a brand new royal enfield 500 military off the center stand on my lift.. I was sitting on it, pushing it forward with my feet and my foot slipped and the bike fell to the right, off my lift, onto me.

I picked it up right away like it was nothing (it's 4x my weight) and checked for damage.. there was none.. no one saw it. two seconds later my boss walked in as I was wiping gas off the tank that came out of the cap. omg.

no one knows lol. someone went and test rode the bike to see if they wanted to buy it

it fell on my foot, it's a little swollen behind my toes on the bottom side and it hurt to walk on but now it seems okay, definitely nothing major. I'm very lucky.

I'm pissed I dropped it. I never come close to dropping any bikes but the royal enfields are the worst, it's really hard to get them on and off the center stands and they are not well balanced, have a high center of gravity.

thank god it's my 'friday night' and I have a much-needed glass of wine... I know **** happens but it's my job and I'm not supposed to drop the bikes I work on. lol

Let it roll off your shoulders. I aint supposed to drop any bikes I haul, but I have and most likely will again. There are worse things in life. If anyone asks be honest, so they know you and who you work for are honest peeps. Honesty is very important.

Hope your foot heals fast.

My boss came in and I think I looked a little frazzled and he said 'you good?' and I said 'yes' and that's all the exchange there was. No one asked 'did you drop it?' If they did, I'd have said yes.

A few years ago someone dropped a cbr 600rr and did like $2,000 worth of damage. After it was repaired, another bike at the shop fell into it and damaged it again, this time on the other side. The customer was furious. At least I didn't do that!

Your boss pays insurance to cover things like this; no employee should pay for accidental damage.
Put some ice on and keep that foot high for a while.

It is never a good idea to remove a bike from the center stand while sitting on it.
Just grab the left handlebar, the rear or side handler, your left foot on the stand side tab, your right foot balancing you and the weight of the bike.

Then lift up with a gentle push forward while feeling the whole balance.
If you feel you are loosing the balance just stop lifting and lean the bike on your side.

To be honest, that's the way I'm most comfortable doing it.

I also put my bikes on the center stand while straddling them.

For some reason royal enfield stands aren't like other stands. it takes an enormous amount of effort on my part and it's a lot easier for me to push with my legs vs pull sideways w my arms.

You didn't drop the bike, you just laid it softly onto yourself.

Time to improve the Royal stands, then.

Ugh time to get rid of all Royal Enfields. I really really hate them. There is always something wrong with even the brand new ones.

I did the same thing to my Ninja today. I cleaned my chain, and I had my jeans cuffed so I didn't get oil on them, and when I went to get on when it was still on centerstand, the left peg snaggled on my cuffed pantleg, and I lost my balance and fell down with the bike on top of me.

Yay! I wonder how many bikes get dropped every day in this country. It would be an awesome montage to see them all happen! haha

I think my foot is okay. It hurts right now, it's been hurting on and off all day (well since 2pm when it happened). I'll keep an eye and take it easy...

It would, but I'm totally glad nobody saw me. My neighbor across the street rides and I always feel self conscious whenever he sees me do really squiddy things like that.

if one of my coworkers or one of my friends dropped a bike I really wouldn't care, it happens, they're begging to fall over really... but when I do it it's THE WORST THING EVER

I've yet to drop a bike. It's crash or nothing for me

Sounds like you lucked out. I could see that same thing happening to me.

Glad you and the bike are ok. I too prefer to be sitting on a bike when taking it off the centerstand. That way, there's a foot on either side to help balance it in case it wants to lean to one side or the other, and it's not difficult to operate the clutch and brake levers if needed. Having a foot slip is something that happens. Taking smaller steps seems to minimize this though.
