That's true. They went from free to $20/month. I'd consider a buck or two, but not paying $200+/yr for this feature. Open to suggestions/ideas if people find similar services that we can use elsewhere.

I've seen that one before, but it requires vB 4.X; we're still on 3.8.X here.

This open street map seems to work.
https://umap.openstreetmap.fr/en/
Or search online "Zeemaps free alternative". There are lots of them. I've used open street map so I prefer it, personally.

If there was an alternative that would be awesome.
Looked at the .kml from the beginning of the thread. Pretty cool, others are actually close by.

I think it would be nice to see more and newer info.

I haven't seen what the map looked like, since I've only seen it since it was disabled, but you can make sharable google maps that would probably fit this purpose. You can add photos, titles, and descriptions, too. Would just have to be manually inputted by someone or a group of people (I think you can have multiple owners/admins of one of these google maps).
