I Got Coffee in My Givi
It sounds suspect, doesn’t it? Coffee in my Givi. Where exactly is the Givi anyway?
To be exact, the Givi sits on the top rear of my Kawasaki Ninja 250cc motorcycle. It is a 35 liter hardened plastic case of pure joy. What, you say? Pure joy? Yes. Pure joy. I will tell you how and why. This past Saturday was forecast to be a beautiful day. When I woke at 7AM, it was already just so. Sparkling sunshine reflecting off the morning dew and the backs of leaves. Temperature forecast around 70 degrees – the sky a perfect baby blue. In short, it was a perfect motorcycling day, but for one hindering factor, a day long chore to do maintaining the deck and my friend would be arriving before too long to help. Fortunately for me, my pantry was lacking in breakfast food and so, I chose the road less traveled to amend the situation, a moto. ride to the new breakfast spot in town, Somebody’s Place. I will get to the name later. My mind, now schooled in creating errands and reasons for extending my ride time went quickly to work. It’s new. They might not take credit cards yet. That will require a trip to the bank. But the shortest route from the bank to the restaurant would require a left turn into the lot and no traffic light. The saying to avoid the left turn, even though on this rural road it is not an extreme urgency, is “three rights”. I could turn right from the road adjacent to the bank, onto Phillips and left onto Woburn Street and what happens to be a beautiful tree- canopied ride on a twisting road past old graveyards, country homes and nature conservancy. A few miles up is the next right turn through bucolic, historic Ballardvale and another mile to my final right turn into Somebody’s Place. Somebody’s Place is a diner whose mission beyond serving breakfast to the local population is to, as painted in cursive on its walls, ” treat everybody like somebody”. And that, dear reader, is where and how I got coffee in my Givi. |
