RPMs come back down slowly when revving... Followed by smoke
Back story... 96Ninja250
Had a bad petcock that was leaking in all positions, so I ordered a new one. While waiting the 5 days for it to arrive I charged the battery, cleaned the carbs again, and broke my starter relay . The now... Received and installed my petcock, put carbs back on, and sort of repaired my relay. Put the battery on and connected the + to my relay while leaving the starter off of the relay. Turn the petcock to the on position.. put the key in and to the on position.. jump the relay and... prmbt prmbt prmbt.. She wouldn't start. So I put her in 1st, pulled the clutch in, put kickstand up and jumped the relay to no resolve... pushed her around a bit and then popped the stand down and then 1 up to neutral... jumped the relay and this time prmbt prmbt prmbt prmmmmmppptt prmmmmmmmmmmmmm she starts... I will also add there was no choke applied to start her up... I did throttle a little to get more air into the probably close to flooded engine. So no I rev her up and the needle hangs then comes down slowly after letting go of throttle. Noticed the throttle was hard to pull... looked at my carb and the secondary throttle take back cable (which isn't connected at this time) is lodged in there... Finally get it unlodged but the rpms still hang... Then I notice white smoke coming from the engine... I kill engine... Notice my oil level is really high right now. I've dumped oil out and is still above the high marker... 1. why is she slow to come down from a rev? 2. What is this white smoke? Could it be water in my gas? 3. are these two symptoms related? Thanks guys in advance! |

You modified many things at once.
That is bad if the bike acts up right after, because the cause is harder to find. Just my opinion: 1) Vacuum leak (from carb's boots or petcock vacuum hose). 2) Could be high oil level or coolant leaking through some gasket. Check what is adding the volume of the oil: gas leaking from the floats' valves or water. If gas, the oil smells like it. If water, the oil looks milky. Check the overflow tank of the coolant for low or high level and spots of oil.

Thanks, but apparently it was a mix between bad gas and my idle mixture screws... all is well now... Thanks for the reply.
