Do you listen to music while you ride?

I listen to my mp3 player at a reasonable level while I ride, does anyone else do this?

If so whats your favorite stuff to listen to?

Yea I do, I use klipsch image s4s with comply foam tips... They act as earplugs with some music added basically... As far as what I listen to, theres too much to name, but Nine inch nails is probably one of my favorite bands...

What headphones are you using?

I tried to, but the voices in my head kept talking over the music.

Seriously I haven't and that is unusual as I turn on my bathrooms ipod player even if I just go in there to brush my teeth. Maybe I just want to concentrate on the ride. I think it might be illegal in RI to have music in helmet.

I use some cheapo 5 dollar earbuds from big lots, but they are better than the skullycandy ones I had before that I think I paid 30 bucks for. i don't know if it's illegal here, but I do it, I doubt I'm gonna be hassled by a cop for it. But I suppose anything is possible.

I'm not sure about the safety or comfort level of riding with ear buds in. I picked these up for $30 at a bike show, and I listen everytime I ride. Its like listening to radio instead of blocking out the surrounding noise.

http://www.torkworld.com/x3.html

They are completely flat and just velcro to the inside of your helmet. all you have to do is run the cables under the padding. Takes about 2 min to install and plugs into any mp3 player.

I like to listen to the sweet sounds of motorycle racing. Some times I pretend it is F1.

I have ALWAYS been worried that the MP3 player could make me less attentive than I should be, but thats the A.D.D. side of me anyway.... These speakers do look interesting though. Will have to check them out!

Only music I listen to is, twin cylinders reving up to 13K I prefer to keep an ear to the environment around me and the bike, especially given that I am new to riding. Also I have some high end Shure ear buds, but I have some concerns as to what happens if I slam the side of my helmet to the concrete and the foam compresses... if the ear bud will be shoved into my eardrum (that is a very bad thing if it happens.. that doesn’t grow back).

I find myself doing similar in my car, lust listen to it do its thing, even though it has all the fancy sat radio and all that. Only its a throaty 3.2L VR6 in a lil hatchback quite different sounds.

LOL I have this problem too. It eventually came to the point where I stopped listening to music because it kept interrupting the conversation I was having with myself.

there is a road here with a nice bump in it....I ride it on purpose sometimes because it will launch you Isle of Man style. Because of the way the road sits, when you come down, it barely compresses the suspension. I love doing it when there are other bikes around.... Most of the time I hear this "DAAAAyyyyaaammmm......" You gotta hit it doing around 50mph or it will just feel light.

I have to have my Zune with me, especially on long rides or to the gym. Though, there is a fine line with the music being too soft where you can't hear it over the engine/wind, and being too loud where it interferes with your concentration.

Yeah I hear that. And the best thing is the full face helmet hides the mouth going from those around me.

Nice downhill landing? Those would be the smoothest on the bike.

I tried to use my iPhone with A2DP wireless Blueooth audio but the lack of AVRCP kills it for me. My headset will not switch off of the "Bluetooth Audio" input if there is still an open audio stream and only the iPod player will respond to the AVRCP Play/Pause/Stop signal (no streaming radio apps), which I really don't use. Apple will not support full AVRCP because they do not want iPod docks to circumvent the dock connector and the associated royalty payments (Apple doesn't get a dime forBluetooth because they don't own/control it).

I tried it once... got a speeding ticket. Since then, I try to stay away from using them, but on long stretches of highway, music certainly helps to pass the time.

+1 The Skullcandy Ink'd earbuds make that an easy line to walk, for me, as they put out solid sound and block a good bit of the wind noise without killing too much ambient. Usually have my Zune on volume 1 or 2. Only downside I've found is their lifespan tends to be is rather short (~3-4months) for hard use. But with the 50% off replacements from Skullcandy, combined with the fact they're like $20 to begin with, it's not bad at all.

I go without music plenty, especially for scenic riding but find having a soundtrack keeps me a little more focused on longer rides

Tried it a few times. The music either distracts me or makes me ride fast, none of which are good. So now I ride with a clear head instead of filling it with music.

but to each his own

I ride with music but usually only one earbud. I use Skull Candies with an Ipod nano.

My music ranges from Pop to Country, from techno to Celtic... Just no heavy metal or rap...

I do sometimes, but only ever with one earbud in. I just like a little bit of music in the background, but I still want to hear my engine and what's going on in traffic.

Left ear I have an earplug so I don't go deaf in one ear.
Right ear I have my ear bud.

Tried riding with both ears with earbuds and I could never hear what people are saying at a stop from other fellow riders.
Tried riding both ears with earplugs and I just got bored when riding on freeways.

So got the best of both worlds .

I heard the drum beat of my heart today when I got put into a squeeze in the middle of 3 lanes, one of which was a truck in the breakdown lane. Somehow its beat was out of sync with the beeping of my horn.

But then you won't hear anything at all when you lose your hearing?

I actually hear fine with earplugs on. It is just dimmed and greatly reducing wind noise, the thing that really hurts your hearing.

Try using moldex earplugs. Really good earplugs.

My new Shoei is much better than my old one from 1985.
Much less wind noise.
I agree you muffle the wind but still hear somewhat ok with earplugs in,
but I can hear better without them and don't like the annoyance of using them all the time. Also if I can hear better while on my bike, I just might live longer.

Tell Korn and Les Claypool and Gorillaz and all the concerts I've been to about my hearing loss later.

I normally ride with my iPod Shuffle with a cheap pair of earbuds I bought at Cycle Gear. They work great and are pretty comfortable. I also don't blast the music. But it is a nice relief from the wind noise. I keep the shuffle accessible so it's easy to hit the pause button should I need to speak with someone.

I tried those helmet speakers which Velcro inside the helmet. They looked really promising, but because they are not tight against my ears, the wind noise tends to drown out the music unless I really turn it up loud. I think the ear buds are much better because I can listen to the music at a reasonable volume.

I used to before I found that they were too distracting, now I just stick the earbuds in my ears to reduce the wind noise and listen to the sweet noise of the bike.

I do sometimes, but most of the time I just have my ear plugs in. I guess it all depends on what kind of riding im doing. If im riding fun twisty roads, or tooling around town, no music, but for a long ride down the highway or I-state then I usually listen to music until I get to my destination.

I've tried it with my iPod, but I much prefer the "250cc sonata".

Recommended music selection for those of you that do listen to music.
War's Low Rider, and Steppenwolf's Magic Carpet Ride, Moby's Flower.

Use the f.m. feature or mp3 player hook thru on the Cardo Scala Multiset for helmets. Granted its "mono" and not "stereo" but that makes it all the easier to hear the external sounds around me when I keep it low.

It is too loud on my bike to even think about listening to music.

I am kind of jealous of harley baggers, they have those nice built in stereo/MP3 systems.

yup!

I love me some music on the ninja! I use sound blocking sony earbuds. They are excellent! I also recently bought a Vega V-tune helmet which has speakers built in and bluetooth...which I use to stream music from my mp3 player...it works pretty good but sound quality isn't as good as earbuds do to road noise. I commute on the bike daily and music makes the commute more enjoyable and long rides as well...actually it makes all riding even more fun...though sometimes I like to go unplugged. I've heard ppl say that it blocks your hearing and stuff...but not any more than noise cancelling ear plugs do and many people wear those. The way I see it if you are relying on your hearing to be aware of whats going on around you...well then you probably have bigger problems coming your way.

I like pretty much anything but new country and rap.

Motorhead
ACDC
U2
RHCP
Third Eye Blind
Flatfoot56
DKM
Jonny Cash
Willie Nelson
...the list goes for miles...
