Need help....

Anyone here know anything about fishing rods and reels?

I want to buy my bf a salt water fishing rod and reel but don't want to spend all my lifes savings on it. Anyone have any recommendations?

Paulette, Tough question. Is BF going to be trolling off a boat or surf fishing? The best bet would be to go to a store specializing in fishing equipment. I have always found Shakespeare Rods and Penn Reels to be fine--certainly have caught a lot of fish with them. They are not overpriced. Hope that helps.

helps is an understatment, Alex! Thanks so much.

I was looking at the Shakespear ugly stick big water spinning rods...and the Penn Sargus saltwater spinning reels.

The major question i have is if the rod has the maximum weight of 30 lbs and the reel has max weight of 40 lbs, does that mean the fish can be max weight of 70 lbs?

I was planning on having the bass pro shop guys help me, just thought i can get pointers from you all fine people.

I only do freshwater fishing but if the line can only hold 40 pounds and he was fighting with a 70 pound fish, his line would break.

support your fellow ninjette and get a RIFFE spear gun. (authorized dealer) Sure it may not match your needs, but just sport a riffe decal.
